Should I even consider trying to get into MIT?
My current cumulative GPA is a 4.5 (honors classes) I maintain A's in all my classes, other than math which is occasionally a B+ or A- , with one or two A+'s in various subjects during the year. My projected ACT score is between a 29 and a 33 and my projected SAT score is around an 1800. I play varsity soccer and swim for my high school swim team. I'm also on the quiz team and am heavily involved in church related activities.
So basically should I try to gain admission or should I spend my time applying to other colleges more likely to accept me?

If you really want to live without regret, or the horrible "what-ifs" and you really want to go to MIT, I would say give it a shot. Otherwise, I think that your SAT score is a bit low, and since MIT is a hardcore math school, I would say that it is more important for you to have stellar grades in math and science than your other classes, which for you is not the case. You probably would also need some kind of "hook" to make you stand out from the other applicants, because you don't have many extracurricular activities. According to collegeboard.com MIT only accepts 11% of its applicants, so even extremely amazing students are often rejected. Definitely put effort into your other applications, because it's unlikely that you will be accepted at MIT. I hope this helps, good luck!

i always believe you should apply if you even have a teensy shot, which you may. my concerns are those low SATs and those "low" math grades. MIT rejects tons of applicants with perfect math grades and 800s on math SAT IIs. work your butt off and get those up and really study for the SAT. definitely add some more match-ish schools to your list as well.
