you have to be to cross into How old do you have to be to cross from Canada into the U.S. by yourself?

My daughter is 17 and has a valid passport. She would like to come and visit me here in New York. Can she take a shuttle with a notarized letter from her father (and myself) all by herself. She would be catching a shuttle in Vancouver to take her directly to the Seattle airport. Or, possibly taking a train from Vancouver to Syracuse and flying back. I can't find this information anywhere.

Yes you and her dad (or only her dad, if she is living with him and he is custodial parent) should just write a letter, but your daughter need not show it unless she is asked (her simple oral explaining to US immigration when asked the purpose of her trip that her folks are split and she is visiting from one to the other may well suffice. After all, she is 17, not 12 or 13).

I live in Canada and when I was 16 my American cousins came to pick me up without my parents to live there for the summer, but it was required that I have a letter from my mother. I had no issues getting through the border.

That's all she needs - the valid passport and the notarized letter of permission from both of her parents.
