McGwire's impact on St. Louis?

I know there are going to be steroid comments, and trust me, it's obvious that he took steroids. I'm wandering what his real impact will be with the Cardinals. He had been working with Skip Schumaker in the past and helped him get much better results in his swing. I think the steroid comments can be funny, but they're used way too much, so I'm just wanting a realistic response or two on what kind of impact Mark McGwire will have as the hitting coach.

With all jokes aside, he'll do fine.

One thing you did not mention about his hitting instruction experience...At the same time he was working with Schumaker, he was also working with Chris Duncan. Duncan did not produce better than before he took lessons from McGwire. So let's just hope he does well and makes a better name for himself as a coach. I doubt we'll ever see him in the hall of fame, but I'd love to see him be an advocate for anti-steroid use.

How will the osshole ever be able to hold his head up if he became an anti-steroid spokesman? The dude was roided up ever good year of his career, destroyed a cherished baseball record, hugged Maris' family, had a celebration that lasted for (seemingly) hours, was on every talk show you can imagine, Sammy Sosa even got in on the fun, they caught the attention of the entire nation, the "race" was comparable to the 1969 moon landing, and in the end... they were both cheaters and it was all a lie.

Both fans and players (especially former pitchers who faced them) should banish the fuking cheaters from the game for life. ALL OF THEM.

I think McGwire is probably a very nice guy and seems like a good person, but that means nothing in the court of withholding the integrity of baseball, which is supposed to be professional, not personal.

The bottom line is McGwire didn't use the talent God gave him, he cheated, he lost his confidence, was out of touch with his body, lost his capability to recover and work hard and rebound from injury and he cheated and took a short cut for temporary stardom.

Mickey Mantle played most of his career injury plagued and in pain, and still hit 536 homeruns. Imagine what records he might have broke if advanced steroids and HGH were available in the 1960's.

These players were all garbage and, in the baseball world, are low life cheating bums if you ask me, PERIOD.

How many of the players below, did someone root or cheer for game after game, as these cheating ba$tards made millions of dollars to use drugs, hit the gym, swing a stick and hit a ball really hard?

BANISH THEM ALL FOR LIFE. There should be no other alternative. They didn't mess up 1 season or 1 world series (like the 1919 Chicago Black Sox), they messed up 20 FREAKIN YEARS OF BASEBALL, and now they're coming back to be HITTING COACHES?!?! UNBELIEVABLE!

I dont think MLB hitting coaches make a big-picture difference to a team. But they can make a difference with certain individual players. So maybe he might help improve one or two guys a little. However, I can't imagine how his instruction could be any better than what they'd already been getting, as he hasn't been a hitting coach that long. Most good players are lousy teachers. I think that in the end, he'll be just another coach.
