About the Eukanuba Dog Show?

Question what does the champion part mean after the name of the dog? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I don't get it and they are usually something crazy. For example one was like Ch. You Da Man? I don't get it...

Update:

I get how they get Champion standing but the Champion after their name. I thought it had something to do with where they were bred. When I was watching it they said that the Ch. part after one of the dogs name the broadcasters stated anytime you see "..., you know it is a good quality dog". I still don't get it...but I hope I explained it better now

Update 2:

So let me get this straight all that stuff after the Champion is their name? So then do they just use normal dog names in the ring so it's shorter and not as confusing, and the long name is just their registered name?

Champion is an award given by the AKC when the dog earns 15 points by defeating other dogs in previous show. The number of points given at any one show depends on the number of dogs of that particular breed at that show. It can range from 1 point to a maximum of 5 for one show. Wins of 3,4, or 5 points is known as a 'major' win. A dog must have 2 majors to get their championship.

At this time, my male Gordon Setter has 9 points, including one major, so he needs another major win, and a total of 6 points to become a champion.

I hope I explained it well enough!

    ADDED:

Exactly. The 'stuff' after CH is their registered name. That has nothing to do with what the dog is called at home. My Papillon's registgered name is Robin's Nest Sweetest Trouble. Robin's Nest is the kennel I bought her from. I call her Cricket. I chose Sweetest Trouble because when she was a puppy, she WAS the sweetest trouble, LOL. So the call name at home doesn't have to have anything at all to do with the registered name.

On the other hand, my Gordon Setter girl's registered name is Schujan's Must Be Kharma. Again, Schujan is the kennel I got her from, and I *do* call her Kharma.

There are titles that go at the end of a name, too, obedience titles, agility, field, herding, etc.

The champion BEFORE the name is one from the AKC just the designation Champion means a champion in the conformation ring (earned by defeating appropriate number of dogs of there own breed) a championship in another venue of competition is qualified- (Field Champ (FC) - obedience trial champion (OTCH)

Other organizations offer their own championship these go AFTER the name

As for the name AKC accepts only one dog per name - (and fido was taken 100 yr ago) you are much more likely to get a unique name with a long one most breeders start with a "kennel name" in a tradition that goes back to livestock breeders. andhol too - when the other have names like daisyhill Walk on Water and HoundhollowPputting on the Ritz "joe boy"seems rather anticlimatic

That one fairly puzzled me. I actual stored spacing out throughout the prepare. i do no longer even comprehend who gained! Can every person tell me Lol? i've got additionally constantly been curious, how the slope of the returned differentiates the ecu and American GSDs...

I think that means they are champion-bred. This means that they are related to a former dog show champion.
