We have to decorate a cake for Cub Scouts. Any ideas?

For our Blue and Gold banquet, we are having a cake decorating contest. The theme is Boy Scouts' 100th anniversary, and we are supposed to decorate a cake with a motif that reflects that theme. Also, everything on the cake must be edible. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would put this design on the cake...

    http://sites.google.com/site/cubpack333/_/rsrc/125...

you can do this as a, "frozen buttercream transfer". It really is way easier than you may first think...and you will love the results.

    Instructions:

    1. Make a picture like what you want on the cake (the same size you will want also.)

    2. Reverse the picture...either on your computer or flip the page over and draw on the back side.)(you need to reverse the picture because after you have finished the design, you flip it over on the cake so it will then be right).

    3. Place a piece of waxed paper over the picture.

    4. Use black buttercream icing with a #3 decorating tip and outline the picture and fill in like the eyes and facial features. Everything which is black in the picture needs to be filled in with your black icing.

    5. Mix the other colors which you will need (ie. flesh). Use a larger tip and fill in all of the colored areas so they are solid. Let the icing build up so it is about 1/4 inch thick. Don't worry if the icing is not smooth on the top side...the bottom is what you will be seeing on the cake so just make sure each color completely covers the area you are filling in.

When finished with all of the fill in areas....put the entire picture in the freezer and leave for several hours, ....or until ready to put on the cake.

    6. After you have the cake iced....remove the picture from the freezer...pick it up by the waxed paper...and turn it over and place it on the cake. Peel the waxed paper from the picture. You will be amazed and pleased with the results.

You may want to practice this method with a little picture ahead of time...just to make sure you understand what you are doing.

Here is a clip on youtube where someone shows how they did this.

Make a bunch of cupcakes and position them on a big plate or board or whatever in the shape of the cub scout badge. I've seen people do this and make Christmas trees and footballs etc. It's really cute and you don't have to cut it....folks just pick up a cupcake. If you do it right it looks like one big cake. All that's required is the right color icing etc.

Now, I KNOW THIS idea seems a bit complicated.. but if you want a CHALLENGE... here goes....

Instead of making a big cake, make a whole bunch of cupcakes...and then decorate them with the BADGE designs. You could spread the work out over several people, of course.

    GOOD LUCK!

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

Maybe you could make a mountain out of those mini marshmellows, and have a pretzel-man climbing the mountain to like symbolize Boy Scout's climb to the top. Or make cupcakes and arrange them into a triangle shape that looks like a mountain, with the words "we've made it so far" on it or something.

How about making these cake balls only use Candy making chocolate for the outer shells. Use the Boy Scout colors of the chocolates and arrange these on a big platter or foil covered plywood, and arrange them in the boy scout logo. Easy and yummy too.

A friend's daughter shared this with me. ANY FLAVOR cake or frosting can be used. Also she used only about a half can of frosting for the batch she made and she said they were very good.

    **************************************…

    Red Velvet Cake Balls

1 box red velvet cake mix (cook as directed on box for 13 X 9 cake)

1 can cream cheese frosting (16 oz.)

1 package chocolate bark (regular or white chocolate)

    wax paper

    1. After cake is cooked and cooled completely, crumble into large bowl.

    2. Mix thoroughly with 1 can cream cheese frosting. (It may be easier to use fingers to mix together, but be warned it will get messy.)

    3. Roll mixture into quarter size balls and lay on cookie sheet. (Should make 45-50. You can get even more if you use a mini ice cream scooper, but I like to hand roll them.)

    4. Chill for several hours. (You can speed this up by putting in the freezer.)

    5. Melt chocolate in microwave per directions on package.

    6. Roll balls in chocolate and lay on wax paper until firm. (Use a spoon to dip and roll in chocolate and then tap off extra.)

I also only melt a few pieces of chocolate bark at a time because it starts to cool and thicken. It’s easier to work with when it’s hot.

Cover the sides with slivered almonds(it takes time but looks great!), put a thick ring of frosting around the top with a fancy decorating tip and pour a can of canned pie filling in the center and spread around til it fills the cake top. It looks so yummy!

Well I think you should put the logo on there? Maybe make make the cake 3 teirs? Thats pretty popular and maybe make each teir a different flavour. Try and sketch some things out with markers thats what I do when designing something. Good Luck:)
