is fooly cooly (FLCL) a Parody!?

i was reading the description of the anime show Fooly Cooly ( or FLCL ) and it said it was a action/ comedy/ parody. What i want to know what is it a parody of. I thought it was a original anime.

    Nothing specifically. They parody south park for all of thirty seconds in the last or second to last episode.
