any manuals that will help in the rebuilding of a 4R70w?

My father and I are going to attempt a rebuild on his transmission. We have the skills to do it, we have just never worked on an automatic transmission. Anyways I am wondering if anyone knows of a good manual that will help us in the process and where to get it. The trans is in a 97' F150 reg cab with a triton v8

Cool. These books have to be ordered, try; www.autorepairmanual.com or call (866) 553-8116. Also speak to a transmission parts wholesaler, they can tell you of any upgrades or mass recall fixes that have come out, or what the trannys inherent weak points are and the remedy; which won't be in the book. A rebuilt kit is usually $125, may included clutches and steels, if not extra $30-45. Unless you find something broken, that should be it.

Buy the book before you do anything else, as the auto trans is the most complicated piece of engineering on any car. Read it thoroughly, check for any specialty tools that you may have to rent or buy. Then drop the tranny.
