National Teams vs. NHL Teams?
Let's just say that the USA national team were to play a very good NHL team like the Capitals or Penguins would they have a shot at winning or are NHL teams better than the majority of national teams? What about if they played a lesser team like the Oilers, I'm assuming they would win then, no? Also, I know that the real superpowers like Canada would probably beat up most NHL teams.
Edit: I meant national teams that are in the Olympics, so yes using NHL players on the national rosters.

The current Olympic teams of Canada, Russia, America, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden and Finland would beat all NHL teams more often then not. The primary reason is that the 5th and 6th defencemen on these teams are MUCH better than the 5th and 6th defencemen on any NHL team, similar story with the 3rd and 4th lines (especially considering that the 4th lines on most NHL teams have 1 or 2 tough guys). So, it all comes down to depth...and these National teams for the most part are made up of top line NHL forwards and defensemen

Of the 12 national teams playing in the Olympics seven teams consist completely (with a few notable exceptions) of NHL and KHL top players. These seven teams would on a consistent basis beat most NHL teams. The other five would challenge the bottom tier NHL teams most nights.
The top four (Canada, Russia, USA, and Sweden) would beat most NHL teams in a playoff series handily.

Interesting question...I would imagine the team USA, given ample practice time, could beat most NHL teams. The bigger national teams i.e. Canada, USA, Russia, are deep and contain more talent than your typical NHL club. A Stanley Cup contending team may give a team like team USA a challenge but an average NHL team would have trouble competing with the better National Teams. Now - could the Gold Medal winner beat the Stanley Cup winner?...that would be interesting...

Are we talking about the Olympic team, or a team that uses no NHL players? A team using no NHL players would STILL have a chance. The reason being that they have more time to practice TOGETHER. The Olympic teams don't have a lot of time to get in sync, unless they players are teammates already.

The thing is NHL is the pinnacle of hockey, once your there, it means your the best of the best, I don't know if anyone saw the exhibition game between the Blackhawks and the HC Davos, the Hawks slaughtered them 9-1, now they lost the Victoria Cup to the ZCH Lions, true, but I think you can pin the NHL as the best league.

National teams would stand almost no chance, especially teams like Latvia, Norway, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan and so on. But Look at the Penguins, they're based around Crosby, Malkin, Gonchar, and Fleury. So if you take them out of the team to play on their national teams, then play against the Penguins, its almost domination.
