Could someone please explain why?

Could someone please explain why the family members of heart attack victims seem to get lost in the woodwork? Everyone is quick to ask how the patient is doing, have support groups for the patient, but what about the rest of the family who has to deal with it? I am 41, our daughter 10. Who is there for us? We are going through this too.

Update:

Ok, I hate to sound stupid, but exactly where do I find "support groups" because I haven't been able to find anything like that.

Hello, sorry to hear about your family member. The ill person is usually the primary focus and the family can be left behind. You are not alone though and there are many people who have gone through what you are experiencing. There are many resources available for the heart attack victim, but not many that I know of for the family. I would suggest that you contact your local American Heart Association office to see if they know of support groups for families of heart attack victims. You can also ask at the Cardiology office that will take care of your husband after the heart attack. Also check with the hospital if he is still there. Many hospitals offer groups or classes regarding this. Also, I would suggest finding someone you can trust to discuss your feelings regarding this, because I think that will help you cope. Try your best to stay strong, but I know it is hard. Good luck.
