Nascar and Danica...?

So they are using each other to generate interest. I get that. Suppose for a moment that she starts running in the top 10 near the end of the season. Would Nascar actually consider helping her win a race? That would certainly generate some interest if that is all they want! At this time it isn't plausible because she clearly lacks experience in the car, so it would be obvious!

Makes me ponder her only IRL race, a race she won because Helio's team screwed up the fuel calculation. Team Penske messing up a fuel calculation? With all of their experience!!!?

Update:

Nascar has shown it isn't above favoring their marquee drivers... debris cautions at just teh right time? You know that is FACT! So perhaps she stretches the fuel one race and catches a debris caution? I'm not saying it will happen but I don't think Nascar can manage their way out of a wet paper bag!

Update 2:

AT some point later this year won't the novelty wear off? I mean if she cruised around in the 30's every race... I just simply don't get Danica Mania... all the hype for a 2nd tier IRL driver! If you don't drive for Ganassi or Penske you are by my definition 2nd tier.

Update 3:

Consistently a top 5?

2009 5 out of 17... (30%)

career 16 out of 81 (20%)

Other "top drivers" have a 50% top 5 rating for career (Kanann about 70%!?) I'm even willing to concede she is in inferior equipment to Penske and Ganssi. Even Marco Andritti's career numbers are better than Danica!

Ok I'm not up for the idea of NASCAR helping guys win races, but I do think they throw phantom cautions near the end to tighten the field again or get a top driver back on the lead lap or back in contention to win. Like at Talladega, NASCAR extended the caution for Ryan Newman's crash so it can go GWC and there will be less of a chance of Jimmie Johnson wrecking. That I know happens because I remember during the Busch race at Talladega in 2007 they threw a caution for a soda can down by the inside wall on the frontstretch. And this was while the field was starting to spread out a little bit. Do they do it to set up a good finish? Yes. Do they do it to get drivers back in contention? Yes. Do they do it so a driver can win? I highly doubt it.

Marketing Ploy 100%. Announcers already love her and praise her, when she wasn't even racing in the 500. Her GoDaddy commercials that use her looks to make her a sex symbol The whole unzipping her jacket and telling people to go online to see more, pretty trashy in my opinion.

If she wants to be taken seriously, she needs to prove her skills on track, and not prove she is just a pretty face. NASCAR is not the place for Glamour.

She only has one win in IRL at Japan after several key drivers had problems. Maybe she gets a lot of top 5's too, but that wont cut it in NASCAR, and she will have a tough time unless she really pushes herself. IRL Champions have not even had much luck. It will be interesting.

Even teams like Penske can screw up every once in awhile and thats why its racing. The best driver or the best car don't always win. I don't think you have the brain capacity to understand that and even if she did win a race you would think its a conspiracy. Danica has already generated plenty of interest just by being in the garage and that's evident by the number of reporters following her around. It has nothing to do with her winning.

yep, it's getting pretty sickening for sure. Yes it great that there is a woman in the field. Bam racing used to have a woman driver too, but that race team was on a tight budget...I hope she smashes every race...a driver is a driver....ok, proove yourself now, you have a chance..good luck with that Danica

I gotta say, sometimes you hover around troll level.

Also, you said "she clearly lacks experience in the car". Way to go brainiac! You figured out she was in 1 Nascar race ever. I thought she did very well. After the last pit stop, she was moving her way up and passed like 5 car's before people with more experience crashed in front of her.

She's a good driver in the Indy series, that consistently finishes in the top 5,

she led the Indy 500 in her rookie year, and could have won that one, if her managers hadn't messed up her last pit stop.

NA$CAR is happy about all the attention she is getting, but they aren't going to cheat for her.

i don't think nascar would engage in something like that. i also don't think they will ever have to worry about it. she may ultimately prove me wrong but i don't think you are going to see her running top 5 and 10 on a consistent basis. i'd be more worried about the networks trying to take up more race coverage with stories on her performance/effort....on sunday's when she isn't even in the show.
