What to do in the Military? options and suggestions?
I've been asking questions on yahoo and alot to the recruiters about the mlitary. Only spoke with Navy and Air Force because i wanted to fly. I am aware of how hard it is, but im wondering if its actually worth it. My AF recruiter told me to enlist and apply after 6 monthes of being enlisted to the air force academy and then work my butt off to get into flight school. I've heard it's virtually impossible to become a pilot is you are enlisted. Is it impossible for me to become a pilot?
And if it is so, i was looking into Pararescue because i have always wanted to help people. i was getting into firefighting yet i felt like i should take the military route and serve my country. But from what i hear pararescue is physically impossible? Is the PAST test really THAT challenging? From what i read it seems difficult but it does not seem that impossible. i feel like i have a shot at it. But i've been getting asnwers explaining it's physically impossible?......Thoughts? suggestions?
If so my last questions is what should i do. I am almost 100% sure i want to join some branch of military. My parents of course would prefer me become an officer before i enlist but im not sure how.
and which branch of military should i talk to. I am intersted in flying, and helping people such as pararescue.
Im just very confused and would like a ton of answers lol about what i should do. Im not THAT familiar with all the branches of military and jobs the military offers.
Help please.
send me in the right direction.
Also im not s tiny little skinny kid. im pretty built. i played football for 5 years. running back and middle linebacker. im around 5'11' 192lbs. Just so you have the idea of how i am If that helps narrow some jobs down. Im not sure.
Thank you in advance

The army was letting high school students do a program calledc high school to flight school. You'd be a warrant officer and a helicopter pilot after 2 years I think. I'm not sure about the details a recruiter can help you. Whatever you do decide remember that getting an education and serving your country are not mutually exclusive. ROTC is a great option. I wouldn't suggest trying to to enlist and then commission. Believe me it's a nightmare.

The AF Pararescuemen are some bad *** dudes! If you are in GREAT shape and prepare yourself leading up to basic training for the standards you can find on the internet, then you should be fine. It is not a cake walk, and should not be taken lightly, but you should be good if you prepare for it.
You can go officer after going enlisted, your recruitor is misleading you telling you that you can do so after 6 months! I have only known 1 person go from enlisted to officer pilot. And I will tell you that he was "**** hot". Everything he did, he did the BEST. Always got Honor Graduate or Distinguishe Graduate. It took him about 4 years to get there. The officer programs in the Air Force are VERY competitive.
If you can find any colleges that will allow you to do ROTC through college and then go to Pilot school I would recommend that. Have you applied to the AF Academy? Maybe try going there. That schooling is tough. It is 4 years of being "disciplined" but it is a great education and it will make you a very prepared officer.
So, if you want to join soon, go enlisted, but know that it will not be easy. You will need to do college classes as well as work your full time job. And you will need to shine.....and I mean really shine to get some great recommendation letters.
As for what service, I will say Air Force all the way! I am AF so I am partial, but the Navy has some great programs as well. Have you talked to a Navy recruitor?
Good luck!

If pararescue was impossible, there would be no one to do it. The PJs at my base are very fit, but heavy on cardio. They are strong, but compact type build. Not linebacker strong, more like a running back. Flying is extremely tough to get into, because you have to have the right physical qualifications to fly, and not just fitness wise. Our best pilot is a chunky redhead who always spills candy in the cockpit that we have to clean up because he is a fatty that can't go 4 hours without eating (he is also a friend of mine)
The Academy has a certain amount of slots open to enlisted personnel, but it is hard as hell to get into, and you must be under 23 and no dependants (kids or wife)
I would say go into Pararescue if you think you could handle the indoc, but work out like crazy before hand. Oh, and learn to swim really well.

You should try some type of ROTC program before you go in so that you can get a college education.
If your goal is to become part of a pilot program of some kind, it is best to do it after a college education (your parents are right).
Being enlisted and trying to do that will be difficult, at best.
Peace.
