2001 Kia Optima transmission or fuel pressure problem?

I have a 2001 Kia Optima that has been having trouble accelerating and driving up hill. I took it in and the mechanic told me that my transmission fluid was black and that I was probably going to have to replace the transmission but that I should get a second opinion. I took it somewhere else and the guy said that the transmission fluid was dirty but he didn't think that was what was causing the problem. He thinks I have a fuel pressure problem but he did not have the equipment to test for that. what should I do?

Is your CEL on? If so, get the computer scanned and let us know what the code is so we can help you better.

Sound like you transmission is almost done .

Black Fluid means the transmission is burnt ( u probably never change it before ) .

Now you can go ahead and replace the fluid ( However this usually causes the tranny to dies in some cases ) see if that helps. ( Use some transmission additive) .

Personally I would just replace it before it dies .

just for now hold off on the trans fluid change both say fluid is bad if you change now might do more damage if the trans is bad new fluid will start cleaning all old crap that is still in there and speed up the process of the trans going bad find another garage that can check fuel pressure and replace fuel filter then try it if ok then if you want you could try trans flush but again if the fluid is as bad as they say it is leave it alone

You should always get a second opinion. Now the second guy didn't have the tools to or equipment to test it. So I would take it to a Kia dealer or a Kia shop and have them take a look at it.

start small and cheap. Change the tranny fluid and install a new fuel filter and air filter. Check for vacuum leaks and any cracked hoses that could cause the problem.

It sounds like there is something wrong with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Take it to a repair shop and see if they can read any trouble codes off of your car's computer.
