Why is Intel's stock CPU cooler so bad?

I mean seriously... My Core 2 Duo E8400 and with the stock cooler had idle temperatures in the 40's and 59-60 doing CPU-heavy stuff.

I replaced it with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro- now my CPU idles at 33 and it barely hits 40 under full load!!!

I mean looking at the stock cooler it *appears* to be reasonably well constructed... is the problem that it's aluminum?

I guess the answer lies in the question "is stock-anything any good?" People who are into cars will argue about this all day.

My opinion? Intel puts a basic cooling unit with the processor so it gets cooled "enough" to work properly. Obviously they've tested these things. I've always used stock fans that come with my Intel chips and have never had a problem.

Of course, you could buy all sorts of things that make a computer run cooler, but the question is do you need to? I wouldn't think so, unless you're afraid of overheating or you overclocked your processor.

the stock fans that intel comes with aren't the best. but my duo e8200 is usually at 33-51C it's also has to do with the case

Well, it really depends on what type of work you're doing. Besides, aftermarket coolers are always better.
