If Jimbo Wales (founder of Wikipedia) is a devout atheist, why does he tolerate religious stuff on Wikipedia?

Seriously, why does he?

Because it is informative, not meant (with an intend), to convert anyone

Wikipedia's purpose is to supply information on everything in the world. To censor out religion would mean a huge amount of topics would not be covered, thus defeating wikipedia's purpose.

Wikipedia does not show the religious views of people, as this would start a huge row on wikipedia pages. It simply informs about the basics of the religion.

I would also say that this would be very selfish to censor out religion.

Because Wikipedia is supposed to give us information about different subjects. It doesn't matter if the founder is atheist or not, all religions and beliefs are allowed.

You should look at their articles about religion. Most are stated from a secular view, only saying what the religion says, but not that it's true. Also, the founder of Wikepedia does not police the entire site.

Perhaps because the goal of Wikipedia is KNOWLEDGE and the doctrines and history of the religion are very important to understanding the world.

Just ask your teacher why they require you to learn history. (Even capitalists learn about Communism -- even when they don't agree with Communism.)

Because an intelligent atheist accepts that religion exists we just don't agree with it's doctrines. Wiki is informative and not supposed to be pro or con anything.

Yeah, Wikipedia informs, and it is good he has religious tolerance

Because being atheist simply means he doesn't believe in any gods. That doesn't mean there isn't value in learning about other people's beliefs. Nor does it even mean he feels compelled to turn people away from religion.

    Devout? LOL

Uh, being an atheist doesn't mean denying that RELIGIONS EXIST; just that they're wrong, and god doesn't.

Wikipedia wasn't written by its founder; it's a publicly-written and edited site.

Dunno what it is you're confused about, exactly.

what you are saying constitutes Xenophobia - or fear of the unknown. Just because you have a Dell PC doesnt mean Samsungs are not worth looking into!

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and is completely unbiased when it comes to information.
