How Did Slavery affect the South's economy and society?

    It is what MADE the south's economy, there was no other way to farm that amount of land without slave labor. It's why the south was in such terrible straits for decades after the civil war.

    Well while slavery was allowed, it helped the South. It allowed for free labor, which boosted the economy.

    After slavery was abolished, the South was harmed. They no longer had the labor to work their fields and crops and that ended up hurting the economy.

    Slavery did NOT help the economy over all, it HURT the economy!
