Good honeymoon cruise for first timers?

What would be a good cruise line and destination to do for two people who have never been on a cruise for their honeymoon? And what should we expect from a cruise honeymoon?

    Ask yourself these important questions:

Is a cruise right for you? First and foremost, if you get motion sick in any way at all, cruising may not be right for you. A good way to tell is to take a small trip on a boat to test out your seasickness level. Before our honeymoon, my husband and I took a quick dinner and dance cruise on a small local cruise boat. It was cheap, but it let us know that we could handle cruising. That being said, cruise ships nowadays are HUGE. Most of them are so much bigger than you could possibly fathom (they contain casinos, shopping malls, tons of restaurants, etc.), and most people honestly can't even tell that they are at sea. However, there are a rare few that get really seasick. Non drowsy Dramamine can help this, but it's still not a good way to spend your honeymoon. So think about it!

What kind of atmosphere are you looking for? This is extremely important. I've been on tons of cruises and cruise lines. Some fit my personality, and some don't. My husband and I went on a cruise with Princess, and we hated it. The cruise was great, service impeccable, and it should have been great. But the atmosphere was incredibly stuffy. That's just our experience. We've found that Royal Caribbean is the right fit for us. There's just the right mixture of fun, class, and adventure for us. Another popular choice is Carnival. Mind you, Carnival is more often than not the cheapest of cruise lines. This is great when you're working on a budget, but from my experience the service and caliber of the cruise just wasn't anywhere near as good as Royal Caribbean. Again, that's my personal opinion, but I just think Royal Caribbean has been the best fit for us. Do your research and figure out what's best for you. One important thing to research is the dress code. This will tell you a lot about the "feel" of the cruise and the type of atmosphere you'll be encountering. If you want to dress up for dinner every night, maybe a Princess cruise is for you. If you want to wear jeans to dinner, then probably a Carnival. If you want to be casual but classy, then I'd say that's Royal Caribbean.

How much do you want to spend? This will tell you a lot about where you want to go. Europe, the Mediterranean, and Hawaii are the most expensive cruises typically. The Caribbean is the most affordable. I really recommend the Caribbean for all first time cruisers because it's a great way to get a taste of cruising and get to experience everything. You can do almost anything in the Caribbean- lounge on the beach, go shopping, parasailing, speedboating, swim with dolphins, scuba dive, horseback ride, and so much more. Anything you can think of, you can probably do it in the Caribbean. Additionally, how much you want to spend is going to tell you a lot about which cruise line you want to choose. Some are much more expensive than others. Disney, for instance, is extremely expensive in comparison to other cruise lines.

All in all, cruising is a great option. You get convenience and adventure all in one. You can go shopping, get a couples massage, spend a wild night in the casino, dress up for a formal dinner and dance night, see amazing shows (my last cruise with Royal Caribbean had an AMAZING ice show--- yes, ice show--- we even went ice skating on the ship), and so much more. Plus you get the adventure of the shore excursions. My favorite shore excursion was a horseback ride and swim in Ocho Rios Jamaica. We got to ride our horses along the beach, and we even got to take our horses to swim into the sea. It was amazing and life changing. My second favorite was swimming with the dolphins and getting a chance to ride on its fins. It was so fun (FYI, if you want to do this, make sure you pick a shore excursion that lets you actually ride and swim with the dolphins, not just see or pet or feed them). Overall, I'm a big advocate of cruises. They are pretty much everything you could ever want from a vacation- fun, relaxing, romantic, adventurous, etc. Good luck picking a cruise!!

P.S. Don't go to Nassau. It's crappy tourist trap. If you have to stop at Nassau for whatever reason, take the ferry over to Paradise island. Nassau just sucks. Plus it's really smelly there.
