anyone here ever used a publishing attorney to craft a contract with a publisher?

    No.

    If a publisher makes you an offer then they'll send you a contract. You can hire an publishing attorney to look it over to make sure you're getting a good deal. It should be an attorney that specializes in the publishing industry and not a general contracts lawyer, because publishing contracts can be complex so you want someone who specializes in it and knows the standard contracts authors sign.
