Don't we already pay for universal health care?
If, according to Obama, there is $500 BILLION in waste and fraud in Medicaid and Medicare and, according to the US Census, there are $32 Million Americans uninsured, wouldn't cutting the waste and fraud pay for health care and a tax cut?
I'm coming up with over $15,000 per year for every uninsured American. Even if the 32 Million wasn't a complete exaggeration that includes ALL uninsured even the super rich and people who simply choose not to purchase health insurance, wouldn't that be enough?
Andrew, Obama has said 500 Billion many many many times.
"The Senate voted Thursday to keep nearly $500 billion in Medicare cuts in its overhaul of the health care system, protecting the bill's major source of financing against a Republican attack."

Also add in that of those 32 million uninsured Americans, half of them could afford insurance but choose not to buy it.

Waste, fraud and abuse is not the same as Universal Health care. Yes, cutting the waste and fruad could go a long way in paying for health care.
My brother in law's cancer treatment - for chemo and radiation alone - was over $200,000.00. That didn't include the 3 surgeries, the doctor, the oncologist, the radiologist, and all the other charges. Medical care IS expensive. But, I think it is marked up so that the medical providers can then discount it to Medicare and big insurance companies.
The problem is more complicated than you seem to be understanding.

I think you have a point. Fraud is a big problem. The answer would be to have complete nationalized healthcare like in Europe whereby the doctors and nurses and all the staff are public employees and there isn't the problem of private providers overbilling the government.
Your numbers a little (cough cough) inflated. "the White House and lawmakers are hoping to use savings from anti-fraud measures in the government-run health plan to help pay for health care legislation. Fraud costs Medicare an estimated $60 billion a year, Attorney General Eric Holder said Thursday."

Yes, I heard Bill Clinton talk about this & it was amazing to hear what he was saying. If we just clean things up it is paid for so all this resistance from republicans is just brainwashing from the right wing media. They want to keep our country in a mess so Biff (or Paris) can continue to live off the fools who make themselves into slaves by complicating simple things like this. Yes, he explained all the waste & that we are actually going to end up with MORE money by cleaning things up. I just wish the hell they would hurry up. I have heard the economy is turning around. Once people are back to work I also hope people will not be so greedy. I am living so frugally right now. Will I go back to eating at the ALL You Can EAt places & buying junk food & eating at restaurants as much as possible. Yes, I probably will cause it will be good for the economy so I will cherish my creatie days of fixing food at home & not wasting so much money. It has been a wake up call for many but we are recovering.

That is a big part of why i'm against any new government social program. THey cant control the waste and just by the government history is bound to fail and cost the next generation hundreds of trillions of dollars.

Andy is very correct, Over half of that number can afford it. they make 50k a a year and higher. They just opt out. I do not want to pay for their insurance.
