In the Bible, in Samuel, why is God "with" David yet several times God sends an evil spirit to Saul to...?

...influence Saul to kill David/attempt to kill David?

So...God is moving through David, but at the same time, God sends and evil spirit to try and kill David?

Can anyone shed some light please?

Update:

Samuel 18:10 and 19:9

Update 2:

If all of your "translations"/interpretations are correct then why does the King James Version as well as the International version say verbatim that God sent the evil spirit? Why isn't your translation, the translation in the Bible? Am I to believe that most on this thread should have been in charge of editing the Bible rather than the people who have? Makes zero sense.

Update 3:

God is never the cause of evil? How many people have the Israelites been ordered to kill by God? Them, their babies, women, cattle, burn the cities? I am confused. Are these just evil people? Redemption is not availalble for them? Not for a baby? A baby?

Update 4:

To lend further validity to my point are the variety of answers from people who claim to be following the same book/God/religion.

I need a stronger word than "interesting"

Update 5:

KJV-Samuel 18:10: And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.

Update 6:

KJV-Samuel 19:9- 9 And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand

    Jay Z is correct.

It's not God that sends the Evil Spirit, but what is happening is that as a result of God not being in the picture, the evil comes in.

You must be talking about Samuel 19:12-20:1.

You're a bit confused. In verse 20, God's spirit makes Saul's messengers to begin acting like prophets; God had influenced them to completely change their course and forget their mission. Then, again, it happened with the next messengers Saul sent.

Finally, God's holy spirit fell upon Saul as to influence him also. The holy spirit influencing Saul to act like a prophet gave David enough time to escape from him again.

Saul was jealous of David. He knew David was the next king. God did not send Saul to kill David.

' God sends an evil spirit to Saul '

    error on your u/standing.

God does not send evil spirit to anyone.

God withdrew His Holy Spirit fm saul ... then an evil spirit entered saul.

saul was consumed with jealousy against david.

he could see that God was with david but was against Him.

so it was saul's jealousy that propelled him to attempt murdering david several times.

That is an untranslatable verb tense in Hebrew.

God is never the cause of evil.

The effect is the result of the object's actions, not God's.

The same is true in 'God hardened Pharaoh's heart.' in English. In Hebrew, it's transliteration would be:

Pharaoh was so obstinate that he caused judgment to fall upon himself.
