can someone tell me the year of my mercury motor 9.9 hp?
serial number is 4091256. i tried to look it up, but can't find the year for it. thanks

9.9 Mercs all have a letter designation at the beginning of the serial # ( 0Axxxxxx, 0Bxxxxxx, etc). 9.9s where first manufactured in 1986, ser.#s starting at 0A197xxx. 4091256 is the number for a 1975 9.8 hp Merc.

The site I looked at said the serial number should be 8 to 12 characters. If that number is correct, you can probably call a Mercury dealer and ask them.

That SR points to 1989.......the next year they changed the numbering system. So, late 1989. I hope this helps
