Opinions on buying fish off ebay?

I REALLY want this Demasoni cichlid. I cannot find it anywhere, no where sells them, nothing, I did find them off ebay tho. I was wondering what are all ur opinions on purchasing a fish off ebay? Good idea, or bad, and why??

I have never done it, and wondering what u all think!

Try looking first in local shops in your area and ask the store if they could special order it to you if they don't have it.

Here are some online shops that might have them

    http://www.liveaquaria.com/

    http://aqtropical.com/purchasefish.aspx ( Allows special order)

http://www.aquabid.com/ ( Is like Ebay but specifically for fish)

Lastly post in Cichlid forums like

    Good Luck!

I buy off Aquabid.com. It's a site specifically for fish.

I've heard of people buying off ebay just fine. The fish came happy and healthy.

If the fish is DOA (Dead on Arrival) then you can get another fish for free or a refund.

Couldn't find a private store that could order it for you? They're not that hard to get...

Otherwise, go for it if the seller has excellent feedback. Just know that shipping will get you.

I can guarentee you that the fish will not survive the trip. Go to your closest pet store (probably not some big buisness like petsmart) and ask the manager if he can order it for you.

If you do make sure it is insured by the company and/or paypal. Otherwise you can not grantee it to be delivered alive and what you wanted. If you can see if a pet store can order it for you. I have had them do that for me.

Not the best idea. Sometimes the fish are sick, or become sick/dead from traveling all the way to your house.

well...what if it turns out to be a dead fish?
