  • Sterilizing Live Plants?

I have a tank that I half way tore down because my fish passed away from what I think was velvet. Right now it has live plants in it. I want to sanitize the tank and set it up again. I have no idea how to sterilize the plants. I don't think simpily rinsing them will remove any parasites. Please help me.

For all the other things in the tank I rinsed them with scalding hot water and let them air dry. Is this enough?

  • Tumbling: Standing pike?

I have my standing back tuck, but I'm working on perfecting it now. It's pretty high. Once I have a clean, solid tuck would I be able to try a pike? How exactly do you do a pike? I know it's like a straight leg tuck, but I think it would be hard not tucking.

  • I need help with my back handspring?

I can do a back handspring but my legs are bent instead of straight. It makes them look really ugly, especially when I do series. I thought maybe I don't push off with my toes enough so I can't straighten my legs. Any advice or drills I could do to fix this problem would be much appreciated.

  • How long should I hold my splits without over doing it?

Right now I hold each of my splits for 2 minutes. I have my right splits and I just did my left splits tonight and my center splits are a work in progress. Should I continue to hold them for 2 minutes each, or should I go longer? I don't want to over do it and hurt any of my muscles, so what's a safe amount of time to hold them? Also, how long should I hold my bridge to improve my back flexibility?

  • Cheerleading Flyer: Ankle Strengthening Exercises?

I'm trying out for All-Star cheer for the first time at the end of April. I really want to be a flyer. I can do everything but a bow and arrow but I'm really close to getting it (I'll have it by tryouts). I have decent balance, but it could improve. My questions are:

    1. I stand on one foot and jump in a square 10 times and then switch feet, jump rope, and use a flyer balance board to help strengthen my ankles. What other exercises can I do?

    2. Would a newbie All-Star cheerleader even get the chance to fly, or do they use the experienced All-Star cheerleaders? I've been a flyer for about 3 years.

  • All-Star Cheer costs: Traveling squad vs. Non-traveling squad?

I'm wanting to try out for an All-Star cheerleading squad and I have 2 places in mind. One only goes to competitions that are in the state and near-by, and the other one travels all over the country. I was wondering how much more would the traveling squad cost? I know prices vary from gym to gym but is there an estimated cost, or if you're on a traveling all-star team how much do you usually pay? I rounded up the cost of the non-traveling squad to be a little under $3000 a year (I think it was approx. $2700). Even at this price I'm going to have to get a job and find ways to earn money to help my parents pay for it.

  • Would I make a competitive cheerleading squad?

I've been a cheerleader ever since I was about 6 or 7, but I was always a sideline cheerleader. I really want to be on a competitive squad. The problem is that the squads I've been on have never required tumbling and I know tumbling is a huge part of competitive cheer. I'm going to take tumbling class this summer but tryouts for competitive cheer are around March/April so I won't have any tumbling besides the basics (cartwheels and round offs and such) by then. Should I still tryout or would I not make it because I can't tumble (even though I would be taking tumbling classes all summer)? Other than tumbling I have good jumps and I can stunt as a flyer (I'm not good at basing and I'm too short to back spot). I really want to make it. I could always try out next year but I don't want to wait that long.

  • Stretches for a needle (cheerleading)?

My goal is to have my needle by this summer if that's possible. I can do a scorpion right now and I'm working on getting it higher. I do back bends and walk in and out to stretch my back. What other stretches can I try? Also, is it possible to have a needle in 4-5 months (I stretch every day)?

  • Turning a picture into a cross stitch pattern?

I've never cross stitched in my life, but I found something threads and what not to do it with so I though I'd give it a try. I don't like any of the free patterns online. I want to use a picture of my fish. How can I make it into a grid pattern? I have Paint Shop Pro 9. Will that work?

  • How can I re-gain my balance for cheerleading?

I think I've lost any balance that I once had. Our cheer camp starts soon and I want to try and get my balance back. I don't know what happened to it. What can I do to better my balance? I know some people say standing with one leg on a chair will help, but I've tried that and it's totally different than being in the air on one leg. Is there anything else I can try?

  • How can I gain balance while doing a scorpion?

I can't hold my scorpion for more than a few seconds. I'm a flyer in cheerleading, and I really want to be able to do it in the air. I can't do that until I can do it on the floor. How can I be more balanced while I'm doing it?

  • Having a aquarium on piano?

I've been wanting to set up a small, 5 gallon, shrimp tank. I already have 8 tanks (I'll have 10 in about a month, not including the shrimp tank), and I'm running out of space for tanks in my small house. I was thinking about putting the tank on top of my piano. We recently painted the piano. I'm worried if I set the tank on the top, when I remove the tank, it will leave a ring where it was sitting. I'm also worried it might leak on the piano and ruin it. Has anyone had tanks on pianos before? Did you have any trouble?

  • Breeding bettas for show?

Does anyone here breed and show bettas? I'll be going to a betta show in June, and I hope to pick up some nice breeding stock. Then, I would like to breed them and enter the young bettas in shows (That is, if they are show quality). I'm hoping to buy some dragon halfmoon plakats, and if I can find them, some purple copper halfmoons.

So, has anyone ever entered their bettas in shows?

  • What should I price these guppy fry?

In the next couple days I should be receiving a trio of Japanese blue swordtail guppies. I'm not exactly sure how much I want to sell their fry for though. The trio cost me $20 but I don't know if I want to sell them for the same price. Any suggestions?
