Turning a picture into a cross stitch pattern?

I've never cross stitched in my life, but I found something threads and what not to do it with so I though I'd give it a try. I don't like any of the free patterns online. I want to use a picture of my fish. How can I make it into a grid pattern? I have Paint Shop Pro 9. Will that work?

easily -- you need to use any textile you like. If by using adorned, you mean there are beads, buttons or different products you stitch on, all you're able to do is discover textile of a similar count type. in case you utilize a smaller count type than the textile provided, the elaborations won't look maximum staggering. in case you do not prefer to apply the elaborations basically use floss interior the colour of your selection.

You'd be best oft use a program that will do it for you. You can use Paint Shop to make the pattern but you won't know what color goes where.

I found a site with links to programs for you.
