let me tell something about the economic dimension about EU integration before commenting the social issues you talked about.

there are gains for both sites, especially when it comes to free market access for Western European countries. EU-entrance of those new members meas vice versa free access to their markets for western economies. And they kinda tend to dominate consumer markets (but also construction, industry and the like) there at huge profit rates. For e.g. Germany some 20% of jobs are dependent just on that business with the EU-newcomers.

the new members have to annual pay fees for eu-membership and no one managed to attract all the funds they could take in theory from the eu. In 2008 for example Romania was a NET contributor to the EU-budget. strange enough.

problems might arise at labor markets, though: cheap labor from the east threatens low calified labor in the west. so the eastern european workers tend to be better off. concerning capital the situation tends to invert: capital (industry) owners from the west find better investment possibilities in the east while eastern capital owners face a new competition and have to lower their former profit rates.

overall, I would say there are benefits for all in the aggregate, but some individuals may lose from the whole transformation process. that should not be overlooked either.

Now the social side: the movement of poor and less desirable people is a bad issue in my opinion for which no good solution has been found so far. on the other hand - I am working currently for some Western companies in Romania and I am myself a Westener - I think it's often discussed very onesided.

I am not happy of robbers and other criminals now travelling to the west. But I have to observe here that it works also the other way round: many westeners who come to Romania don't do so with their very best intentions but start a lot of monkey businesses here, too. Including stuff such as drug and human trafficking.

The abuse of cheap labor in a way they wound 't dare in their own countries with their workers is just another white collar crime and it pisses me off if people from countries which think theirselves to be more civilized behave like in the wild west when they believe themselves to be unobserved.

The EU wants Eastern Europe to get richer and Western Europe to get poorer so that nobody has power and succumb to the EU. Then we'll be one big happy family with no jealousy of each other. This is obviously not in the interests of Britain but hey, when did the government care about the British?

We will then work for our communist leaders if we want to survive.

its just communism all over again, but it failed the first time around and western europe is now picking up the tab. I seriously doubt that eastern european nations had anything to put into the EU that would advantage the likes of France, germany, spain and the uk.

weve gained nothing from any eastern european countries entry into the eu, its not the ordinary romanians who are the criminals its the romanian gypsies that do the majority of pickpocketing. most of them are thieves.
