27-0 with 27 KOs...why am i still not sold on Valero?

im still not buying the hype being poured on this guy. his footwork is friggin atrocious. he was clearly never taught how to punch properly. all his punches come from his belt line almost. hes got power apparently, but you cant KO what you cant hit. plus his hands arnt really that fast and he doesnt move his head at all. at 28 hes pretty much set in his ways which i think will come back to hurt him as he faces some real competition. he cruised through the super featherwieght division without fighting anyone worthwhile. he got his hands on one belt but when hes KOing everyone why not clean the division out.

anyway im still not sold on this guy. people are overrating him

I agree with you on this one. In his fight against DeMarco, he showed power and heart, but I thought he was fundamentally flawed and he could be taken out by a seasoned vet such as Marquez. I think a Hatton fight with Valero would be a great fight as well as a fight with Baby Bull. I think Malignaggi outpoints him. On paper, he looks great, but I'm not yet sold on the Valero hype train.

I remember Pacquiao when he was 23 he was rugged just like this. The thing is Valeros 28. He should have fought atleast some good competition by now, and the reason he hasn't is because the people around him know that hes nothing more than good, he's not very good and nowhere near great. 27 ko doesn't mean anything. If you made me fight 27 women i would be 27 ko's aswell. Valero=hype.

I was actually impressed with his last fight and I think it earned him a spot as a contender. He is a pressure fighter and no one has yet withstood him for 12 rounds. Eventually somebody will but until they do it is hard to criticize. When you have a perfect record and 100% knockout percentage you deserve a little bit of accolades. HBO and Showtime aren't going to air him fighting tomato cans. He fought a good fighter in Demarco and rest assured his level of competition will rise in each of his next fights. I think he is definitely in the top 5 at lightweight behind Juan Manuel Marquez but above former champs like David Diaz. People will be skeptical and time will tell but I believe he is the real deal.

Agree. The man has no defense at all. De Marco lost because he was some sort of scared of Valero. I didn't see De Marco showing he's a fighter. He ran away like a child from Valero who was like a crazy bull.

Acelino Freitas went 28-0 28 ko's so time will tell us if this Valero guy is the real deal.

Did anyone say Valero's one of the best now? Many are saying he's exciting and fun to watch because of his aggressive technique and raw power. Yes he's a prospect but he still has to prove himself against legit opponents. Like you, I'm not sold on Valero but I believe he's rated the way he's supposed to be.

agree, overrated. Give it time, he will soon fight someone who uses their head and not their hands.

he hasn't fought a top fighter... he needs to get tested then we will know if he's for real.
