Do stupid people spend a lot more time on the internet, or do people get stupider when they get on the intenet?

I agree with hypothesis 2 - we each exhibit lower intelligence when on the internet than otherwise. It's the lowest common denominator and the impersonality of the Web. I write things that I would think twice before saying it to a person face to face.

Maybe you mean -----if people spend a lot of time on the internet they may become more stupid than if they did not? Are you asking if the internet changes a persons intellect? Depends where and what they are reading on the internet,it could be porno ,it could be philosophy.Porno=stupid, philosophy=not so stupid.I personally think the internet can be very harmful.Shy ,introverted,and depressed people can become obsessed with it.It is turning our children into people who have a hard time communicating in person-eye to eye.It can isolate people,and they can lose touch with reality!Go outside and get some air!!!

Can stupid people really answer your question with the necessary intelligence? Stupid people are too stupid to know that they are stupid, so I do not even know if I am stupid or not. If I suppose I am intelligent, but as such stupid, would you be intelligent yourself, as an internet user to judge that?

I do not have enough time lately to leisure on the internet, but would I have I would perhaps spend one more hour a day on yahoo answers.

Neither... in person people don't spill their guts or want to face the consequence of saying certain things so you never realize how stupid/racist/insane they are. Only online do their deepest, darkest thoughts spew forth.

Perhaps stupid people do spend more time on the internet. 'He who can does, he who cannot teaches' to quote G.B.S. and I would add, he who can, doesn't have time for the endless pleasures of the Internet.

But then again it all depends on your definition of a stupid person. Is he who devotes his life to entertaining himself more stupid than he who finds his pleasures discovering new avenues of the mind.

The internet does not have an effect upon your intellect, one way or the other. If you must pin point either belief, then perhaps your brain may be stimulated if you choose to do daily mind exercises upon it.

It depends on what you do with your time on the internet. There is immense amounts of material to discover on the internet.

People spend time on the internet, too busy not becoming smarter. If you're not moving forward, you're falling behind.

It would depend on what they are looking at on the internet

you learn stuff on the internet so neither. but if it has to be one or the other, stupid people because then they learn stuff and become smarter
