is it legal for anyone to carry a handgun in walmarts strapped to their belt loop?

I was in walmarts recently and was eating in mcdonalds when couldnt help but notice this man in his late 20's with long hair and dressed shabby if I do say.... he had a possible 9mm handgun in its holster I had to look twice without giving suspicion! but OMG!!! what is he was mental or a child from mcdonalds could have easily taken the gun and shot someone or themself!!! his guy wasnt a cop and I felt very unsafe around this guy .. these gun laws have gone way too far.... then ppl wonder why do much violence and ppl shooting ppl for no reason! HAHA... this is very good example of what can and will happen

Update:

I almost knew anyone who is mentally stable with no criminal record can obtain a weapon and can even conseal it with a license I can tell you for sure if he was an undercover cop WHICH i doubt... he wouldnt have it in plain sight! its just he didnt seem right, he seemed nervous and I dont know if even was real gun but come on people we see stuff everyday on news! it could be a big problem that could have been prevented we see crackpots everyday with guns on TV they are too easy obtained from bad ppl wanting to do harm.... it scared my son! and that is why i was so upset over this walmart incident... and by the way the state is virginia not texas or nevada even if he had a bb gun or knife its still a weapon

    depends on the state

if you were in arizona then it is perfectly legal

just because you disagree doesn't mean people shouldn't have their rights. your opinion is not more valuable than anyone elses

  • He could have been a undercover cop or security person.

Some states say that the businesses have the right to ban firearms. Some states don't.

Since firearms have been legalized here for concealed carry, the crime rate has dropped a LOT.

Also, strapping a gun on your belt in plain view is not concealment.

Please remember, every citizen has the right to keep and bear arms, whether others like it or not.

It was one of the reasons our country became free in the first place.

If that ever became legal I would end up shooting the idiot who legalized the law! Maybe they will make it illegal again after that. Every state here in the US where it is legal to carry a hand-gun the shooting death rate and violence rate is so much higher than the states that can't...... And I would be a very terrified girl if I knew people could just carry guns around.

first it depends on the state that you're in.

2nd: a gun that is properly holstered and in the possession of a law-abiding citizen is in the safest possible place. the fact that you were so overconcerned with his weapon actually made you safer. If you saw that he was armed and NOT robbing or threatening anyone, ANY POTENTIAL CRIMINALS ALSO SAW HIS WEAPON AND decided to NOT rob the place.

get over it, the 2nd Amendment applies to everyone.

depends on what state you live in; I would assume since he was open carrying, it's completely legal as long as he has it registered to him. Don't be so quick to judge; just because he was 'dressed shabbily' doesn't mean that he's not or a cop or that he's going to shoot someone.

I am not aware of walmart rules, but the 2nd amendment gives us the right to bare arms. i agree with you that he should not be allowed to have a gun. in fact, i believe that the only reason we were granted this right was to defend ourselves from wild animals in the 17/18 00's. i believe this amenedment should be abolished

Yes, a great example: nothing happened because he is a law abiding citizen.
