What is an eternity ring?
I'd never heard of them before coming here, and to hear them mentioned in the same breath as an engagement and wedding ring seems strange. What are they for?
Hmm. Does anybody think that's a little redundant to wear with a wedding ring? Maybe after 10 or 20 (or 5?) years of marriage I'll get it. haha

it is the third ring when you buy a set. when you see a woman wearing three rings on her wedding finger, the third on is the eternity ring.
it is a fairly new tradition, and can be given for any number of important events. the birth of the first child, the 10 year anniversary, the first year anniversary, or when the wife says she wants more diamonds =)

An eternity band (ring) is definitely not redundant to wear with your ring – especially if your ring is a solitaire without any diamonds on the side. The eternity band is called an eternity band as it is symbolic of you and partner living together for an eternity. These bands can come in ¾ sizes or full eternity sizes where there are diamonds all the way around the band. Why not try after 5 years of marriage! It makes sense, of course buying diamonds always makes sense. Ha ha.

An eternity ring is a diamond ring style with diamonds all around. It symbolizes eternal love. Usually it is given as a gift for a special occasion, but that can be anything: for an anniversary, or just to reignite the romance!
Different styles of settings can be used for an eternity ring, so there are many choices.
It's a beautiful addition to a woman's ring finger, mostly worn along with wedding band and engagement ring, but can also replace the engagement ring sometimes.

A ring with diamonds all the way around the band symbolizing eternity, usually given on a special anniversary. A woman will wear them with their engagement ring, wedding ring on the same finger. So they will have 3 rings on that finger.

Like wedding rings, eternity rings are a symbol of everlasting love. Although eternity rings are frequently given to celebrate an anniversary or other special event such as the birth of a child, there is no precise occasion for which to give this exceptional gift. Given as a tangible symbol of the promise to love forever, an eternity ring is a beautiful way to show the love of your life how much she means to you. Many women choose to replace their wedding band with an eternity ring and wear it along with their engagement ring.

Eternity ring is just a fancy name given to channel-set rings. It is just clever marketing to get people to buy that style of ring on anniversaries, birthdays, or a variety of occasions. Channel set rings have diamonds or other gems the whole way around the ring. My wedding "band" happens to be a channel-set ring. So really, it is just a style of ring and is not restricted to any particular occasion.

Styles and price ranges of eternity rings vary, as do settings and stones. "Full" eternity rings have stones all the way around the band, making them impractical for many wearers due to the thickness of the band. Also, the stones used must be fairly small. Full rings cannot be readily sized, so they must be custom made. Consequently, most jewelers do not carry sample rings in stock. Because they must be custom sized and designed, full eternity rings are also pricier than "half" rings.
Half eternity rings only have stones across the face of the band, making them easier to create and to size, which is reflected in their price. They are more comfortable to wear and larger stones can be used in half rings. Some women also prefer this style since all of the stones can easily be seen.
Eternity rings are most commonly set with diamonds. Other stones such as emeralds, rubies, and sapphires are also popular choices, but diamonds are the undisputed favorite. The shape of the stones is as important as the type of stone, with oblong or square stones usually being preferred to round. Square or rectangular cut stones are easier to set end to end around a band, making them perfect for eternity rings.
When deciding how to wear eternity rings, personal choice is the most important consideration. Eternity rings are usually worn on the same finger as wedding rings. They may be worn in addition to the engagement ring and wedding band, or in place of either one. Many women choose to replace their wedding band with an eternity ring and wear it along with their engagement ring.
While the style, stones, and placement of eternity rings are important to consider, the sentiment conveyed by an eternity ring is the most important part of the gift.
