God (our God go to Psalms 83:18 for his name) does condone war he had David slay the Philistine Goliath?
David slayed Goliath with his own sword in the name of our Father in heaven.....
the story in the bible is in 1st samuel 17:1 - 51.
My Question is........What say you, is it right for a Christian to own a gun for protection and in self defense use it?
Gabi.....behave i am a Christian,seems to me you doubt.....
the bible gives passion to my soul, peace and tranquility to the turbulence in the rough seas of my life life.
for you my friend i suggest you read ....
1st Samuel 17:50 - 51....
you will find out David used his sling to subdue Goliath but used Goliath's own sword to slay him.
hey, it's an honest mistake i learned something new myself today . you are more fortunate as you have the opprotunity to learn two thing s right now .
1. you should always read the scripture pretaining to said subject in the KJV bible to find out the truth.
2. you should research 1st before you try to make a fool of someone else.
i agree i would not try to kill hopefully the gun or (sling shot) would just subdue the perpetrator. if not make him 1st back down just because he or she was intimidated by the weapon.
my dear Andy F slow your roll God was in control of this fight and he himself saw that the Philistines were a threat to Israel, God chose David to slay Goliath in his name.
because the Philistines were a threat to Israel and God himself was a witness it was self defense even though David was the agressor when the battle was about to happen.
READ THIS SCRIPTURE.....
1st Samuel 17:45
then David said to the Philistine, thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield:but i come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
if you read on you'll see that David warned the Philistines that the Lord would deliver them into his hands and he would smite thee he told the Philistines just like they had 1st told him that he would give the carcases of the host of the Philistines to the fowls of the air and to the beasts of the earth and that all the earth shall know there is a God in Israel.
do u understand self defense?
good question prophet...
i do know the Jews were his chosen people the gentiles were saved i believe, when this gentile woman had more faith in the ability of Jesus than his own people.

While Jesus did say to "turn the other cheek" that seems to be in context relating to more petty matters of the law. I do not think He intended to mean one should sit by and cooly watch their family butchered by savages, the context tells me that as well as the fact that the idea is alien to human nature as well.
I see nothing wrong with keeping a weapon nearby in the event of a home invasion or crime, if such occurred however I would attempt if at all possible to shoot to disarm like hit an arm or a kneecap instead of shooting the perpetrator in the heart or head, that's a good scenario but one must admit in the dark or during a struggle ones aim may not be too good so if the perpetrator ends up dying not much to say except too bad, poor guy should have known the risk of initiating a home invasion.

There is a difference between the laws of the Old Testament and the New. God condoned certain wars in the Old Testament and even aided his people in these wars. He declared the Israelites to be his people and guided and defended them.
The New Testament, although the culmination of the Old, teaches forgiveness and love. The laws were not destroyed but fulfilled by Christ. The law is still in effect but with a cover by grace. I believe it is right to own a gun and to protect myself, my family and even others. I believe it is right to fight for ones country also. All is covered by grace.

Goliath didn't ever own a gun, did he? And I thought he attacked the Phillistines aggressively, not in self-defense.
So in answer to your question, I think it's OK for a Christian to kill people with the jawbone of an *** -- unbelievably, YA won't let me write out the name of this animal, but it's basically a Biblical synonym for "donkey."
Killing people either defensively or aggressively seems to be OK in the Samson story -- it doesn't matter who attacks first.
But you have to kill them them with that kind of weapon, and you have to be sure they're God's enemies, and to be sanctioned by God, you have to employ your own God-given physical strength, not cheat by using fancy technology.
If you want to be blessed like Samson, you can't turn to Colt or Smith & Wesson for your weaponry, because any short-haired fool of atheist can own a Smith & Wesson.
In fact, I bet even some Phillistines own Smith & Wessons these days. And probably also Glocks, Uzis, and other popular handguns.
The Bible says NOTHING that condones this kind of weapon; nothing at all. If you own that kind of weapon to kill other people with, you might as well be a pagan.

I live in a civilized country which heavily controls it's citizens owning guns which - lets face it - only have one real purpose.
and - once again i have to point out - there are 34,000 christian denominations, some of which are against armed conflict - eg quakers and JW's

Yep the government sure won't protect you. Oftentimes they are the criminal offender causing the violence. It happened to our forefathers in the revolutionary war. The government at the time was unjust and had to be put in it's place.

Read the book of Numbers. God was ok with mass murder. They call it numbers for a good reason...add up the body count that god was ok with.

I have no problem with that as long as they realize they are totally responsible for all the consequences of using it.
