Do you think Crosby's attention is a little unwarranted?
He didn't have a real presence in the games until that winning goal. I think people are heralding an oversung hero. What do you think?

He scored the winning goal, and we love him for that, but it wasn't a superman effort, it was a very pedestrian goal, and it was hs first big play of the tournament.
Oddly enough, the goal has some synergy to it: Crosby's first meaningful effort of the game, and it wins the game; he's a hero.
On the other side of the puck, this was probably Ryan Miller's first big giveaway. He misread/misplayed it royally . HIS first screwup, and it lost them the game. His saving grace was that it WAS his first big mistake, and they wouldn't have even BEEN in the game if not for him. One mistake by one man, one extra effort by another, and Canada wins. That's how close this really was.

Say hypothetically speaking, Miller makes that save and the US break down into Canada's end and Kane scores. He would become an instant hero, who didn't score during the game.
He scored the most important game of the tournament that gave Canada the gold medal. Not unwarranted whatsoever.
Source(s): And Quest. Gretzky only participated in one olympics where NHL players were allowed to compete in, when he was 38. If he was 22 and playing in the olympics I guarantee you he would have a gold.. Plus I think he got one in 2002 when he was involved with team Canada is management gets a medal as well. - 1 decade ago
He scored the overtime winner in the gold medal game on Canadian soil.
He could have been selling popcorn during regulation for all I care...history will show that Crosby scored the winning goal.
In 10 years time his play in the tournament will be forgotten...the goal won't.

I believe he also shot the game winning shootout goal to win the Canadians another game against Sweden.,, Check your facts.

Perhaps you have a point, but you gotta look at it from the fans standpoint. I was gonna say that yeah they're overreacting but now that I think about it, me and the other Ranger fans all give Stefan Matteau a 5 minute standing ovation when he shows up at MSG, all for one goal. So from their standpoint it obviously means alot so I can't knock them.

Sid is Canadian, that and only that is the reason he is the current face of the NHL
Is he one of the top players in the world, of course, but is he the best, arguable.
He's a good Canadian boy, rich, talented, well spoken, squeaky clean (so far, I would like to know what his teammates think of him) who else is the Canadian media going to hype.

Not at all. He has a Stanley Cup and now has a gold medal. Does the Great One have both?

Couldn't agree more. The guy didn't show up for the entire tournament, but he scores the one goal that everyone will remember. In a way, it's perfect symbolism for the way the media pumps him up, as if he wins games all by himself without putting in any of the effort. Hell, Iginla did more work on setting up that game-winner than Crosby did scoring it. And that's virtually Crosby's M.O. -- work your way down to the net, and wait for someone else to get the puck to you, so you can swat in the easy score.
This was a great tournament, and I tip my hat to Team Canada. But of all people, why did Crosby have to score the game-winner? All the superior efforts put in by his teammates will forever be overshadowed, because the hockey media can't stop blowing sunshine up Crosby's rear end.
I don't care what anyone says -- the guy is the most overrated player in hockey. And it doesn't help that he's a no-class, cheap-shot whiner.

he ALWAYS has a real Presence....anytime he steps on the ice.....alot of things that a player does doesn`t show on the score card
