Need recommendations for some interesting restaurants in San Francisco for a family vacation.?
I'm trying to find some "must eat at" local restaurants (no chains, please) to try on our family vacation in June. Places where we can dress casually and keep an 8 year old happy and fed are preferred. I'm also interested in any local specialty food items that we should make sure to try (like eating lobsters in Maine, etc.). Thanks in advance!!

Foods that are synonymous with San Francisco
Sourdough Bread
Cracked Crab
Hang-town Fry [A breakfast dish made with oysters, bacon, and eggs]
Indian Pizza [check out the mission to find this pizza served on naan!]
Its It Ice Cream Sandwich
Ghriadelli Chocolate
So many good restaurants that a musts list would take hours. Here are just a few of my favorites that are pretty kid friendly.
Clement Street Bar & Grill -Clement at 8th Ave. A neighborhood favorite with something for everyone, pasta, burgers, seafood. Baseball Mary and Paula the bartender make everybody feel welcome.
Judy’s on Chestnut at Scott- My favorite brunch place in the city. Huge omelets served with your choice of English muffin, home made blueberry muffin or pumpkin loaf [my favorite]. Order a side of potatoes to share, these are, bar none, the best home fried potatoes in the world.
Izzys on Steiner at Lombard: - This SF institution is known for steaks, seafood and stiff drinks. Eclectic historical pics decorate this dark wood paneled favorite. Don’t miss the creamed spinach, Popeye would give up the canned stuff in a minute for theirs.
Gaspare’s Pizza and Italian Restaurant 5546 Geary @ 20th Avenue. This is the kind of place that reminds east coast folks of their pizza places, plastic grapes hang from the ceiling, That’s Amore on the juke box, excellent calzone and pizza, great pasta with your choice of traditional sauces. A neighborhood favorite with families and couples alike. Along the same lines Georgios on Clement at 2nd. They make their own sausage and the staff is friendly.
Bills on Clement at 25th, the best burgers in the city. Lots of creative toppings, great malts and good fries.
Don Ramons 11th at Harrison. This places has been around over 35 years, a 3rd generation family restaurant. Traditional, stick to the ribs, Mexican Food, top shelf margaritas.
You can also find lots of great recommendations if you check out the resolved dining out San Francisco questions.

January is the coldest month. Rain could arrive everyday. Be prepared. Must see places are Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Park, Union Square (Downtown), Chinatown, Pacific Heights, Haight Street, Union Street and North Beach. Good Restaurants are Ebisu Japanese Restaurant. Fun place is Sushi Rock, Farrallon, Chaya Brassiere, Chez Papa, Crepevine and Max's Opera Cafe. There are NO outlet malls in SF. The malls are regular shopping malls.Stonestown Galleria, Market Street Center and Westfield's Shopping Center. Outside of SF are Serramonte Shopping Mall, Petaluma Outlet Stores Shopping Mall and Nut Tree Outlet Malls in Vallejo.

Super-yummy Spanish food. I always take out-of-towners here, and it's always a hit. IT's noisy and jolly, and sometimes Mexican itinerant musicians come in and entertain! It's a great experience and not expensive.
