WiFi = Wireless, it is becoming the term to describe a wireless WAN like Verizon's implementation that started in New York. It terminates at the adapter on ur computer which is NOT the same as a WLAN adapter. It is more like a special purpose modem.

MODEM = Modulator/Demodulator, and technically it ONLY refers to the analog device that attaches to ur telephone line and runs at 54Kbps or less. HOWEVER, it has morphed to refer to anything that converts a WAN packet stream to a LAN packet stream.

LAN = Local Area Network or the devices connected on the downside of a Modem.

WAN = Wide Area Network or the portion of the network terminated by Modems.

WLAN = Wireless LAN or a LAN connected with radio waves and not wires.

All ur terms are combinations of the above.

wifi router = a router with capabilities of transmitting radio frequency signals

wifi modem = a modem with capabilities of transmitting radio frequency signals

the above may also have wired capabilities and usually do.

wifi lan = a LAN with wifi capabilities - it is a description and NOT a specific piece of hardware.

With where they are going with the term WiFi, ur terms may (or may not) be more accurately called WIRELESS ROUTER, WIRELESS MODEM, and WIRELESS LAN.

Does that straighten it out for u????? Please vote now.

Wifi modem has the wireless router built in to the modem. Wifi router is just that.

Google them, you'll get Wikipedia references, if that's what you're looking for.

Wifi router = a device that connects to the Internet (WAN) via a cabled connection - ISDN, ADSL for example - and provides access to that internet via wireless LAN connection.

Wifi modem = a device that connects to the Internet via a wireless connection - like a mobile phone line) - and provides internet access to the device that is connected directly to it, and maybe other devices, depending on the model of the device.

wifi LAN = a collection of two or more devices that are connected together via a wireless Local Area Network.

Look up router, modem and Lan, then think about them as being wireless.

wifi modem [phone-line] is a dsl modem with its own built-in router [modem/router], the other modem is a cable modem and you have to attach your own router to it like a linksys router

Source(s): the BT Home Hub is called a modem/router
