3g of Carbs, but 0 Calories?

My mom came home with this "0 calorie" sweetener called Truvía. It has 3g of carbohydrates (3g of Erythritol), yet it has 0 calories. Explain to me how this is possible.

Hi Jackson, it gets a little confusing because we are all used to 3g of carbs equally 12 calories. The zero calorie thing is kind of a fudging of figures via terminology, with numbers being rounded down and its somewhat unique absorbtion rates being taken into account.
