Australian government is going to apologise to past relinquishing mothers for abusive adoptive practices?

I found this article online after reading about it in today's paper:

http://hoydenabouttown.com/20100305.7302/wa-govern...

Do you think the rest of the states will follow suit? And does this give natural mothers in other parts of the world hope that they too will one day receive an apology?

Do you think this is enough, or should the government do more? And any other thoughts you may have.....

Thank you for the link. As a Western Australian adult adoptee circa 1968, I cant help but think that their apology is a little too little too late, my first mum for one passed away several years ago and so will never hear the apology that is supposedly meant for her. She did NOT want to relinquish me, she was shoved into Hillcrest home for unwed mothers in East Fremantle for the last 6 months of her pregnancy, worked like a dog (an unpaid dog), had me removed from her at birth against her wishes and was refused the right to hold me until after the adoption papers were signed. She was not told that I was ill, and in fact had nearly died. Despite the fact that both she and my adoptive parents would have been happy to have an open adoption, and in fact my amum asked to be allowed to contact her many times during my early childhood, this request was denied by people who knew nothing, and cared less, about how their decisions would affect me, my siblings and my mother. Apology??? Why do they think that will make up for the 34 years that my first mother, siblings and I were forced to live apart??

@Lady Catherine: where did you get the idea in this that it was about abusive adoptive parents????? I suggest that you actually read the link and the article in the West Australian and get your facts straight!!

An apology? Leaves me feeling kinda flat. They took what they took and now an apology is supposed to make everything all better? That's kind of like kissing a boo boo.

Do I think my country will follow suit? BWAHAHAHAHAHA NOOOOO.

ONLY if the government had knowledge of the adoptive parents being abusive BEFORE they adoption took place..

you can't be blamed for something you did not know was going to happen..
