Anybody besides me a little disturbed by the phrase "killed 7 SUSPECTED militants"?

I'm just asking as an american citizen who abides by the laws of the country (and I have no criminal record so I guess I'm being pretty law abiding).

If they are 'suspected' shouldn't they be arrested, not killed? What if they were NOT militants, then why were they killed?

I'm referring to the drone misslie attacks in west pak and in Afghanistan. Every time they announce one they say "killed 23 SUSPECTED militants".

Update:

Uh - I AM white, and I STILL feel like my rights are eroding.

Update 2:

Vic - you can call me an a++hole if you like, that's your right. But don't EVER F'KING call me P - F'KING C.

If they are shooting at you they are not supected militants - they are TARGETS.

How would you like if the local cops shot you dead in the street tomorrow 'cause you were a 'suspected' bank robber?

Don't play tea-bagger word games, you know what point I'm making. If you really were in the military then you took the same oath I did when I joined.

It says -' I will protect the american way of life and the US constitution...'

Update 3:

America the beautiful, land of the free, the home of the brave...

Getting a little muddied around here...

When I hear that phrase I wonder how many terrorist did we just create. Unfortunately we are not playing a zero sum game that we can win by killing terrorists.

I'll preface my statement by saying that I do not agree with our presence in Iraq or Afghanistan at this point. That said, what sort of arrest and trial do you believe our soldiers would receive if captured? How many of the near 3,000 people killed by militants on 9/11 were arrested and tried before the planes were flown into their workplace? In short, war isn't "nice".

It's one of many PC terms so the news reporters won't get sued. It's used all the time when the police arrest someone, even when he is caught doing the act:

"Papal aide, Vatican singer fired over alleged gay-prostitute ring" from today's USA Today

In Pakistan and Afghanistan, the US has killed hundreds of innocent civilians because they were "suspected." For most Americans, life and limb of foreigners don't mean much if they are standing in the way of "national security" (America's war for global hegemony).

In America, we would arrest them. In an active war zone, they get killed, and it's a sad fact that sometimes innocents get caught up in the madness. They shouldn't have been there. LOL. ( Hey, it worked for Happy Gilmore. ) Seriously, there have been innocent people killed in every war. Feces occurs.

That's just media lingo. They call everybody "suspected" in their reports. They could have undeniable proof and they would still call the culprit a suspect.

Suspected is the number of militants + innocent civilians. Just a mathematical term.

Not at all. I'm just upset that we don't kill more "suspected militants".

It's PC speak. If an s.o.b. is shootin' atcha, he's no suspect.

No not disturbed at all. When they are dead God will sort them out.
