Going on R&R to Australia, will I need my passport?

In afghanistan right now and planning on going on R&R to Australia, anyone know if I need my passport? If so... I need it mailed to me ^^;

Update:

R&R is rest and relaxation time when you are deployed.

I have a passport, but if I don't need it then I won't have it sent to me. Should get my R&R orders soon. Thanks

Update 2:

Argh! I wish I could get a straight answer! Haha...

    Presuming that you are American citizen [Y!A is accessible all over the world] you will need the following documentation for an Australian vacation:

    • a regular U.S. passport [not the 'no fee' official passport since you don't travel on orders being on official duty]

    • an Australian Electronic Travel Authority [ETA] to be applied for at a service fee of AUS$20 [paid by credit card] on the website of the Australian government

    You can use your military ID only if you're using it with military travel orders.

    Otherwise, a passport is necessary. Contact someone in your CQ / HQ and request that the military expedites your request for a passport.
