Normal blood pressure is less than 120/80. Any blood pressure that is greater than 140 on the top or 90 on the bottom is in the high blood pressure range. In your case, a systolic blood pressure (top number) of 139 is in the pre-high blood pressure range and your diastolic blood pressure (bottom number) is in the high blood pressure range. This is nothing to panic about, but something that your doctor should be evaluated. Not too much should be taken from a single blood pressure reading for several reasons I will go through.

Blood pressure fluctuates throughout the day and many things can temporarily elevate the blood pressure. For example, stress, anxiety, pain, caffeine and nicotine can all temporarily increase the blood pressure. Many people also experience some anxiety when having their BP checked that falsely elevates their BP, which is known as white coat hypertension. This temporary increase in blood pressure is not associated with any negative health outcomes. Also if the proper technique was not used (e.g. BP cuff is too small) then this can also falsely elevate the blood pressure. Home and store BP monitors are notoriously inaccurate, therefore if you had this BP checked on one of those then you should definitely have it checked at the doctors to verify this result. For all these reasons it is important not to over-interpret one BP reading and have your BP monitored on several occasions. If your BP is elevated above 140/90 on 2-3 occasions over time, then you can officially be diagnosed with high blood pressure. Therefore you should have this evaluated by your doctor if you have not already.

A BP in this range is unlikely to lead to any immediate problems. The concern with elevated BP is that it is associated with an increased risk of heart attacks, strokes and other health problems, but this risk is over years. There are several things you can do to help lower your BP, such as regular exercise, weight loss if you are overweight and dietary modification. The dietary modification includes limiting your salt. The DASH diet is associated with the greatest reduction in BP and you can check it out if you are interested. This is nothing to panic about though, but you need to have this evaluated by your doctor. Good luck.

You haven't got "tachycardia" - all that is is a translation into cod-Greek of the words ''fast heart-beats", which they teach to medical students to confuse the punters. As the posting above shows, it's quite common for young girls to have fast pulse rates and is not abnormal. And you don't need to see a Cardiologist. Save your money. And there's no such thing as "normal blood pressure" so forget that one as well. We're all different. The so-called "blood-pressure" readings taken by your Trainer and your doctor are not, -of course, accurate, nor real. They're just numbers. - If you want to know why, I'll happily explain in detail some other time, but it's a different story. The question you pose here is simple to answer. Like everyone else, your adult body at rest needs roughly 5 litres a minute blood circulation. So if your resting pulse is 119 beats per minute, then dividing 5000mls/min by 119 bpm means your heart pumps out 42 mls of blood at each beat. You can't alter it, -no tablets any doctor has can change it. It is "you". But - when you're stressed (either physically and mentally) and the organs of the body need greater blood to flow, to supply the extra oxygen, you need more than 5 litres /min to feed oxygen to them, so the 42 mls goes up, and also your pulse rate. So,... Think about it. ....When you were walking on the treadmill and your pulse rose from 119 to 168 bpm...then if your heart was pumping out the same amount of blood at each stroke (which it doesn't, actually) the your total blood throughput would have been 168/119 times 5000mls/min, which comes to 7059mls/min. Your heart would have been pumping round just about 40% more than at rest. That's not unusual, - it's exactly what you'd expect, -contrary to your Trainer's (and the doctor's) opinions. The slight inaccuracy is that not only does your pulse rate rise with exercise, but so also does your stroke-volume, (-the amount of bood pumped out at each stroke. ) - So the 42c mls/min of blood would have risen too. But again, -that's another story. Let me know if you want it another Bedtime, O Best-Beloved.

Not if it is a one off reading on an unreliable machine,

You need it checking properly by a doctor or nurse who, if your BP is consistently in that range, might organise a 24 hour monitoring.

Many store machines and ones that people buy are not accurate. If you were anxious, apprehensive or excited about having it taken, that's enough to send the BP up.

Go and get it checked properly by someone who knows your age and medical history. Then you will get your question answered properly.

120 over 80 is good. Yours is kind of high. It won't kill you but over a long period of time is can cause heart disease. You should see a doctor if it's always high. Mine has been high for 10 years but I take pills to make it lower. Dont worry but do something about it.

When it comes to blood pressure. the first number is called systolic it refers to the pressure exerted when the heart is contracting .

The second number is diastolic it refers to the pressure being exerted when the heart it relaxing.

Your diastolic BP is abnormally high meaning your heart is not relaxing as much as it should, you need to see a Dr. about that relatively quickly.

You should check your blood pressure on several occasions. You should reduce your blood pressure < 120/80 mmHg. This can be achieved by diet, exercise and medications.
