I am so stuck in math, I have to draw a line when Given the slope and y intercept,?

Example is : slope is -2 and y intercept is (0,6) how do i draw the line. I get confused on all the problems!! when do i go up or down right or left on the lines? i think postive postive you go up to the right right like slope 4 y intercept (0,5) so go up 4 and right 5? the fractions and negatives kill me!! Quiz on monday UGH HELP ME PLEASE!!!

    Slope is Rise over Run. So the slope here is -2-----which equals -2/1-------which is like saying down two and over one. If the top number is negative, you always go down. If the bottom number is negative, you go to the left. Likewise if the top number is positive, go up. If the bottom number is positive, go to the right. Here's the same thing but in table form:

    Number | Direction

    --------------------------------------------

    top #= positive | ^ Go Up ^

    top #= negative | Go Down

    bottom #=positive | Go Right--->

    bottom #=negative | <---Go Left

    Ok, so that said we come back to the slope of -2 and y-intercept of (0,6). First, plot the point of the y-intercept----x=0 so go up to 6. From that point you just plotted, according to the chart the top number is negative (-2 / 1), so we would Go Down two then since the bottom number is positive we would move one point to the right. If we did it right, the second point you have should be (1,4). Connect the dots and you have your line.

    For your second example, plot the y-intercept first, right 0 and up 5. FROM THERE you take into account the slope. Since both the top and bottom numbers are positive (4=4/1) we would go up 4 and right 1. The second point you've plotted should be (1,9) because you're adding 4 (the slope) to your y-intercept coordinate (5).

    The y-intercept is the point at which the line crosses the y-axis so the x coordinate will always be zero.

    a) Slope m of line through (3,-1) and (6,7) is : m = (7+1)/(6-3) = 8/5, SO, y-7 = (8/5)(x-6), OR, y = 8x/5 - 13/5 >===================< ANSWER b) y-intercept, x=0, y = -13/5 >=========< ANSWER Slope = 8/5 >====================< ANSWER c) slope perpendicular to the above line, m = -5/8 >=======================< ANSWER
