    Hi there.

The real woman upon whose story the film is based joined the "Soeurs de la Charite de Jesus et de Marie" in Ghent, Belgium, in 1927. A catholic order.

So that is the order Audrey Hepburn will have joined in the movie.

They were a nursing order and she was sent to Belgian Congo, then under Belgian rule.

    Cheers, Steve.

Most sites say that she joins a Belgian order of nuns, and does not give the order. I think that on the whole this is not the most important thing about the story or message. Maybe reading the book may point to an answer, but beware as the film version follows the book fairly closely, although there is an added level of sexual tension present in the relationship between Dr. Fortunati and Sister Luke that is absent from the novel.
