If the Bible says this, then why...?

Isaiah 55:8-9 says

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways,"

declares the LORD.

"As the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways

and my thoughts than your thoughts" (NIRV)

So how can people even begin to believe that they somehow comprehend the will of God? How can people judge based on the Bible, even though it's impossible to tell how God would judge? Even if you say "The Bible is the word of God, it is infallible."-- So? I'm not calling the Bible wrong, it's humans that I have a problem with. Assuming the Bible is perfect, it's impossible for a human's understanding of the Bible to be perfect. It is all text after all, any form of pragmatics is lost.

You are correct! Just consider further - as imperfect beings we comprehend God in an imperfect way, but He reveals Himself to the best of our ability to comprehend. It would take an eternity to tease out the infinite layers of meaning in Torah, but as we do, we improve ourselves and the world and draw closer to God.

Our knowledge of God will forever be like an asymptotic function - forever nearing the goal, always closer, but never quite reaching it.

    BIBLE: God the ALL Knower

"And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered."

    Matthew 10:30

"He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power his understanding has no limit."

    Psalm 147:4-5

..."and his understanding no one can fathom."

    Isaiah 40:28

    Qur'an: God the ALL Knower

[19:93-94] Every single one in the heavens and the earth is a servant of the Most Gracious. He has encompassed them, and has counted them one by one.

[ 3:29] Say, "Whether you conceal your innermost thought, or declare it, GOD is fully aware thereof." He is fully aware of everything in the heavens and the earth. GOD is Omnipotent.

[ 72:28] ...... He (God) has counted the numbers of all things.

[31:16] "O my son, know that even something as tiny as a mustard seed, deep inside a rock, be it in the heavens or the earth, GOD will bring it. GOD is Sublime, Cognizant.

  • We cannot comprehend the will of God. That is why we are all sinners.

    People cannot judge. Read James.

Human understanding of the Bible is a full time job.

God has tried His best to explain it all to us.

Our imperfect brain must study constantly just to concieve half of it.

God has shared some of His thoughts with us......from these we know we are to show kindness and love to each other.

The thing that God deals with most in people's lives is their pride......they are to proud to turn to God.

They live their whole lives doing the wrong thing......lying, stealing and cheating......these are the things (and the thoughts that lead to them) that God refers to as not being His ways.

God is Holy and has never committed sin or any wrong doing.......when this is compared to even the smallest wrong doing it is like the distance between heaven and earth.

In verse 6, where it says "Turn to the Lord before it's too late, call out to him while he's still ready to help you", it shows that it's addressing the non believers. Obviously non believers are going to be confused because they dont have the Spirit guiding them. If they understood the Word, they wouldnt be lost.

I would like to say something to you:

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways,"

    declares the DAVID.

"As the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways

and my thoughts than your thoughts"

So you can now see, that whatever I now say is true. If what I say doesn't make sense, you just don't have the capacity to understand it.

Circular reference with unstated premise = ERROR

I agree with you- I think it is extremely prideful and foolish of any religion to claim that it 'knows the will of God'. As if! If there is a god, he/she/it is so much bigger than us and so incomprehensible, to even claim that we understand it is ridiculous and blind. And also quite rude to god, all things considered. People are just so near-sighted and egotistical- they take their own thoughts, and call it 'god's will'.

He was talking about his understanding compared to ours.

His is much higher, but he wrote the Bible so that we will understand.
