Question about marijuana? Worried for my friend!?

My friend is going into the hospital this week for getting her wisdom teeth pulled.

She also smokes weed a lot.

I have heard recently that anesthesia reacts really bad with marijuana, and can sometimes

result in fatality. This really freaks me out because my friend doesnt think its true.

Please help answer with anything you know, thank you in advance.

Update:

Does anyone ACTUALLY know anything about this?

Marijuana contains the drug THC (this is the chemical that makes you high) If it is within your system when you have the anesthetics then it can react badly. The same with nicotine and alcohol. Tell her not to smoke for a few days before, and for a day or two after wards. Until the anesthetics are out of her system. She'll be fine.

I don't believe anesthesia reacts badly with THC/marijuana, but nonetheless, your friend should inform her Anesthesiologist. The dosage of the anesthesia will most likely need to be adjusted because of her marijuana use. She doesn't need to tell her doctor, just the Anesthesiologist or whoever is administering her anesthesia. Mentioning such is important, as my friends and I all agree. Even if she doesn't mention it, she'll most likely be fine, though.

I think marijuana is one of the few illegal drugs that does NOT react horibly with anesthesia.

To be on the safe side she should quit smoking for a few days before being put under. If she can't quit for a few days, she has a real problem.

And, of course, Yahoo Answers is the most reliable source out there.

Ask the doctor before she goes under. There's confidentiality.

not true. smoking ANYthing may cause issues if you are put under (unconcious) but a young healthy person is usually ok. marijuana itself is not an evil drug, and is in fact medicinal for many ailments, and is far less dangerous than alcohol, which is legal. ridiculous.

tell the doctor that she is seeing. she will hate you for it, but if it saves her life, then so what.
