Depends where you live. Here in Wyoming, I can answer the door with the gun in my hand. In most States you can do that as well. BUT, and it is a big BUT, if you are pointing the gun at the person knocking at your door then you had better have a justification for that act. Otherwise you have committed a criminal act. There are several charges that would apply. . ., Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment, etc.

If you are holding the gun at your side, pointed at the floor, you are probably fine.

Answering the door while holding a gun is not the most polite thing I've heard, and could lead to someone thinking the worst of you as they ran from your door. If you answer the door and find a police officer there, you should expect to be immediately disarmed by the officer.

Normally, there's nothing against you owning a gun in your own home unless it's a type of gun specifically banned by law (machine gun) or if you're a convicted felon. This means that you should be allowed to answer the door with your gun BUT a doorway is considered a public area and any sort of furtive movement (absent belief that your life is in danger) could be considered brandishing, which is not allowed even in your house. You'll probably be ok but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a good reason to believe whoever's knocking is up to no good.

I'm sure it depends on the circumstances, but Illegal, no. As long as you don't point it at the person, make comments as to what you are going to do with it etc.

If the girl scouts come knocking and your standing there with your .50 cal, that may pose a problem.

Take a peek out the window before you just go gun toting!

Putting it in your waistband for all to see is a great deterrent to the solicitors when they stop by... Can not admit or deny how I know this!

Depending on the exact circumstances (i.e. if it's waved around ostentatiously or pointed in a threatening manner), it might be considered brandishing or menacing.

great Britain enacted very strict gun administration years in the past, and Australia did an identical some years back. In the two situations, gun violence incredibly greater suitable -- severely! Depriving lawful voters of their precise to bear hands makes them greater in risk of people who continuously have, and could, forget approximately any rules that ban or restrict gun possession. And now, with all the communicate approximately new rules banning weapons, gun and ammunition revenues are booming because of the fact a lot of people desire to get their weapons and ammo before gun possession is banned. Years in the past, i grew to become into staying on my own in my father's abode in a woodland in North Carolina. as quickly as I entered the abode, i chanced on that it have been ransacked and robbed. between the products stolen grew to become into my .22. sometime after nighttime I heard noises that i presumed have been made by using somebody attempting to interrupt in. i grew to become into defenseless and terrified. I opened the mattress room window, crawled out, and hid interior the woods until morning. because it grew to become out, no person grew to become into attempting to interrupt into the abode that nighttime, thank God. I had no purpose of attempting to shoot everybody who could have been attempting to interrupt in. yet as quickly as I had my gun, i could have shot by using a door close to the the factor to get entry to, which might probably have scared him off, which could have been the suited consequence for the two one persons. people who desire to kill others will continuously have get entry to to weapons, as they have on condition that weapons have been first invented. The notice "administration" is, hence, a misnomer. The Sandy Hook massacre grew to become right into a poor tragedy. yet we could desire to continuously not use it to deprive straightforward voters of their precise to possess a gun for self-protection. that is counter-efficient. As is shown by using the gun violence records of great Britain and Australia, and a few of our very own states (jointly with California),banning weapons commonly does not something greater suitable than improve the style of means victims of gun violence. i don't care to be this type of sufferer.

In your hand? Yes. In a holster? No. MN state statute says you have justified use of a hand gun for self defense. So unless you are threatened of Great Bodily Harm or death, the gun must stay holstered.
