I am assuming you have diabetes. If not, your doctor is probably not checking your hemoglobin a1c.

This blood test is used to measure how well your diabetes has been controlled over a period of several weeks. It will not fluctuate much on a day to day basis, unlike blood sugar. The goal is for the value to be under 7%.

You can ask your physician when this was most recently checked in you and what the value was.

    Source(s): Trust me, I'm a doctor.
