Am I missing something?

With all the reports of the accelerator of cars sticking and causing uncontrolled acceleration and causing accidents, why can't the car be shut down? It seems to me just reaching and turning off the key would stop the engine and you could break to a stop. That would my first thought. Am I missing something?

I've been saying this every time Toyota is brought up. People are just dumb and they don't understand their cars to begin with, let alone when they become homicidal.

I'm not afraid to be IN a Toyota, Just to be driving in front of one.

Some Toys have a "push button start" feature which might preclude a manual shutdown. That being said, if I was driving & couldn't shut it off I'd put it in neutral & let the sucker throw a rod. Seems not too many people are knowledgeable enough act in that situation. Sad reflection on our society, don't you think?
