:/ How do I know that he likes me?

Question

One of my friends who I haven't seen an a while has been messaging me an awful lot lately. We used to text at least three times a week, but it's gotten to texting, phoning and MSNing every day (we go to different schools and lead fairly busy lives, so we haven't had much time to actually meet each other). 
We chat til pretty late, one in the morning-ish. A couple of nights ago he said he liked me but I wasn't sure what he meant because it went something like this (the end bit i mean):
Him: The new Gorillaz album is out, heads up ;)
Me: I know, I already have it :')
Him: I like you
Me: Awww, I like you too (I wasn't sure how he meant it, like as friends or because I liked the Gorillaz or what :S)
Him: Night! x

It was late so I guess that's an excuse, but afterwards we just chat like normal and I'm torn between asking about it and...well, not.

lol don;t ask him about it you will sound retarded and he will be like why is this girl asking me a dumb question. He likes you, bottom line, you just dont see eachother so hes gonna say lots of stuff and drop hints everywhere, hang out with him once, guaranteed he likes you.

He likes you, thats easy, and depending how much you see him you can tell by his body language. 
If his feet face you while youre sitting for instance he s into you. his pupils will also dialate.

it couldn't hurt to ask. 

all it will do is help you. 
if he says no, just say "okay, good, i wanted to make sure that nothing awkward would happen between us, i like your friendship" or something.
