What is the main ingredient in Lens CPR?

There is a TV based sales gimmick for a product that is said to "make lenses like new". This is obviously an inflated claim. My question is what is the 'active' ingredient? I would like to venture a guess and say that it is ammonia.

BTW. I have always fixed minor scratches on my glasses with toothpaste. Clean them well first and try it out.

Update:

It's okay for someone to create a national advertising campaign ripping off the general public, but not okay for me to say how I fix my lenses? I am not a lab! If you have a special coating on your glasses, I hope you are not ignorant enough to rub them with a light abrasive! Ignorant people have been warned! Please don't continue to belittle me or my thread. Thanks!!

I have no idea what "lens CPR" is, but the only things that can take scratches out of glass are buffing compound (that's harder than the glass) and hydrofluoric acid. I wouldn't recommend either. Both will change that prescription faster than you can shake a stick. On top of that, hydrofluoric acid can kill you.

Just go to a proper optometrist.

well find some and read the ingredients, or go to a website that has some and read the ingredients.

Don't tell people you can 'save' lenses with toothpaste. YOU don't know what their lenses are made of and they could be DAMAGED with toothpaste and ammonia..

Source(s): wears special lenses with special coatings...
