What is the best DFW Power Company?

I am moving to the area soon, and I noticed the area has several power companies. What is the best/cheapest one?

Also why are there several? Every other city I've lived in had one company.

I used First Choice Power and they're pretty good and cheap. I had them for two years and never ran into a problem with them.

I have spent a lot of time researching this one.

Deregulation a few years ago allowed competition for service. This is good for you and me.

I chose Spark energy a year ago and have been very happy.

I just renewed my contract with them and get my power for 9.7 cents/kwh.

That is a price that is hard to beat anywhere.

There is a catch. You must sign up for 12 months. Early withdrawal will get you significant penalty. The exception is if you move there is no penalty.

You must have autodraft payments from your bank account. I did not like this one, but it is one of the ways that they can keep their costs down and pass savings on to you.

One other thing. They will give you a heads up that your contract is coming to an end. If you do not renew then your rates go up significantly.

Cheapest rates by far and the customer service is very good too. Highly recommended.

texas deregulated the electric providers years ago to allow consumers the option to select their electric company. There's a website http://www.powertochoose.com/ which shows you the current offers/rates of different power companies in your area.

TXU used to be the original and only option in Texas until deregulation. Most people still keep TXU even though they do not have the best rates.

I personally use GEXA energy...cheap rates and good service.

When looking the rates, etc. it's sometimes hard to compare different companies because one may have a cheap rate, but will also charge you a monthly "customer fee". Another will have a bit higher rates, but no monthly fee. So you just have to wade through them all and try to find what works best for you.

you have the power to choose :-))))
