What are the cons of adopting two kittens instead of one?

I'm going to move and live alone in a few years, and I've been thinking of adopting two kittens instead of just one when I'll have the possibility.

I've read around online and found many websites talking about the pros, but I want to know if there are any cons (apart from the cost of maintaining two cats instead of one).

For now I think it'd be a great idea since I'll have to work and there are going to be times when one kitten would be alone and might be scared or just bored, but I'd like to hear about any possible negative consequence.

Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for any possible mistake 'cause English is not my 1st language.

The only con we have ever seen is that, for some reason, they don't get along. But since you are getting them as kittens that most likely won't be an issue.

Two is good because they will have each other, can be more sociable, etc.

We bought our latest 2 together and it has been great. They are male and female so getting them neutered and spayed was critical :) They sleep together all the time. They will scrap (play fight) but that is very normal - sometimes even the female will challenge the male.

Go for it - you won't regret it.

    BTW, your english is excellent.

Ok, maybe one con - when they both want your lap at the same time :) That happens to my wife a lot.

Cats are pretty easy to care for since they are much more independent then dogs. There's not many cons to it other then they cost more. Well the only other things would be if they didn't get along, but getting them both as kittens growing up together they should be fine. And also, more cat hair in your house and maybe more of a mess if they get into things. I have 2 cats and as playful kittens they'd make messes but now that they're grow and calmer they're great. They like to groom each other and cuddle together, it's really cute. They are best friends =) I'd recommend 2 at the same time so that when you're in school or working they won't be alone.

    Adopting Two Kittens

Really, the only 'cons' are those you mentioned - cost! Bear in mind that - just like people - as cats age they require more in the way of medical care, and by getting two kittens at once, they both become old cats at once. If you'll be in a financial position to afford their older-age care in 15 years from now, then that isn't a problem!

Two kittens are actually easier to care for than one kitten - they need a playmate, and most of us have to leave the house on a daily basis to go to work, leaving the kitten home alone to amuse itself (and get into trouble, too, LOL!).

And you don't have to get two kittens - an adult cat and a kitten can be a good match as well, and an adult from a shelter will come already spayed/neutered which can save you a bundle of money.

Your English is great! I wish my French or Italian were as good.

In my opinion, there are no cons regarding adopting two kittens at once. Having only one animal of any species is not fair to the animal. One alone can be destructive if left by itself with no attention, and having another to play with and bond with is one of the most beautiful things to watch.

I'm glad to hear that you'll be adopting your kittens, too. Too many unwanted cats are "put to sleep" when good homes don't take them. Thank you! And enjoy those kitties when you get them.

Sometimes kittens/cats are a bit picky and won't share a litter box so you may need 2 litter boxes in separate areas of your house/apartment (stinky). Sometimes they won't share a food and/or water dish either. But chances are that they won't be snooty and will be incredibly loving with each other and you, especially if they come from the same litter. Choose wisely and good luck :)

P.S. I Agree with LoverOfWine... it'll take some maneuvering trying to sleep with two kittens that want to be all over you, but once settled it will be cozy haha

Well obviously, you are going to have to feed two cats, brush two cats, give attention to two cats. Not to mention the vet bills will be double and they are already pretty high for just one kitten.

But on the pro side, I agree; if your not home allot. two kittens is probably better for the simple fact that neither will get lonely.

    Hope this helped

And congratulations on your new kitten ( s ) whatever you decide to do !

You need to shut off your computer and have a frank discussion with your husband, preferably without the kids being there. Trying to impose a situation like "majority rules" in a house isn't a very good idea. The parents have to set limits for the kids, but you two need to be on the same page, or you are going to have your hands full with your kids for years to come. Edit after your comment; I didn't mean to imply that the kids shouldn't be a part of the process, but that for decisions like this, you could be setting up a dangerous precedent of having to vote for everything that happens. just my $.02

it would be better to get a male and female,as 2 males run around and cause a right mess climbing up curtains, where female calms the other one down, only thing you should get both neutered spayed as she can get pregnant any time after 5-6 months.plus with 2 boys they spray a lot as having the boy smell around

The only real con is cost. Just my 0.02. Nothing else (cats not getting along, etc) is not guaranteed. For all you know they might get along just fine.
