Abraham was called by God out of idolatry from Mesopotamia to the land of promise. He is known as the Father of the Faithful.

A special people was selected by God to represent HIm here on earth. They were also selected to be the people that would produce the Messiah. He was predicted in the Bible to be born into the linage go David so it was important to prove it by giving an account of His ancestors.
I don't know if you are speaking about Replacement theology or not but I don't believe in it. God never goes back on His covenantial promises so the Jews are still the chosen people.

According to the ancient prophets Abraham was chosen to lead God`s people out of bondage, there fore it was necessary to find a linage to ensure that the prophecy would be true.
The missing part happens to be Boaz a great grandfather of David a Pince and ruler in Israel, for some reason he is not mentioned in the bible, but most likely is in Jewish writings.
