How can I teach my dog not to shred kleenex?
My dog is an angel in all respects except one. She isn't the usual yappy chihuahua, but she likes to play a lot. But sometimes she gets into the waste baskets and pulls out the kleenex and shreds it. I don't think she eats it, but just leaves a mess. Don't tell me that I should leave it out of her reach. I think it is better to have a strategy for training her.

You teach the leave command and you never leave her alone with a bin.
My dogs know the leave command but I wouldn't leave them alone in the kitchen with a raw steak on the counter top.

quickest attitude is to undertake a 2d canines, ideally an individual that has been used to being left abode. that for the time of many cases places an instantaneous end to the SA. different selection is a veterinary behaviorist, who will prescribe an SSRI like Prozac. it may take time to get the dosage perfect, and a sturdy reaction, yet in many cases by way of the years the canines could be weaned off drugs. in case you could no longer get to a minimum of one in guy or woman, your interior of reach vet are able to administration the case by potential of periodic consultations with a behaviorist. examine a e book by potential of a professional like Nicolas Dodman, between the veterinary pioneers in treating SA. you will learn the style you're able to adapt your habit. as an occasion, leaving for below a jiffy at a time, with a view to reassure her which you would be back quickly, and steadily extending the durations. overlook relating to the domestic dog as you pass away, and don't greet her on the door once you come back. are available in, walk around a 2d, then provide her a comfortable greeting. do no longer make a great fuss, which only feeds into her tendency to overreact. SA isn't planned misbehavior. The canines is in great turmoil and can't help what that's doing.

I would buy an airhorn...and when you see the dog putting its head into the waste basket, blast the air horn. Over time, the dog will associate the loud sound with the kleenex. good luck.

You take her to the mess and grab her collar but not to ruff you point to the mess and say NO you don't have to yell but be stern and after that you give her a spank on the butt to let her know this is what happens when you shred stuff don't hit her very hard but with punishment in the spank
